Horse Racing Betting Explained

Bet on Horse Racing, your way. Horse Racing on the Betfair Exchange lets you set the odds yourself on over 219 Horse Racing events. Bet on top markets like Wetherby 31st Oct, Ascot 31st Oct or Keeneland (US) 31st Oct. Choose from over 25 Horse Racing venues, and place a Horse Racing bet, either for an outcome (to Back) or against it (to Lay). Here on the Exchange, you can back or lay bets on markets like "Arkle Chase", "Gold Cup" and "Champion Hurdle", and get the odds you want.

How to bet on Horse Racing

Betting on Horse Racing is simple on the Betfair Exchange. Browse over 42 Horse Racing bets, choose a market, such as Antepost, Win, or Special, and then either match a bet, or set the odds and place a Horse Racing bet against others. You can bet for or against an outcome – e.g. if you're betting on UK National Hunt Jockeys Championship 2026/27, you can place a lay bet if you think Harry Skelton will lose, or you can place a back bet if you think Sean Bowen will win.

Understanding Horse Racing Betting Odds

We show Horse Racing betting odds on the Exchange in decimals. Horse Racing decimal odds are easy to understand, because they represent the payout you'll get if you win – e.g. 1.8 means you'll receive 18 for every £10 you bet, including your stake, if the bet wins. The Horse Racing odds shown in the blue boxes are set by the layers, and the odds shown in the pink boxes are set by the backers. As a Betfair member, you can ask for the Horse Racing odds that you want.
