Timeform View

SPECIAL JOHN had a bit up his sleeve when scoring at Bangor and a 7 lb rise might prove lenient. He can beat penalised Worcester winner Gata Ban and Ballyfinn, who'll be suited by the return to this longer distance.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Special John traded at a high of 4.60 and Betfair SP of 4.50 when winning last time, a race in which it led.

Timeform Comments

Special John (IRE)
Won his first 2 starts over fences last season at Exeter and Wincanton. In command a long way out when adding to his tally in a 10-runner handicap chase at Bangor (3m, good to soft) 25 days ago, scoring with more superiority than the bare margin suggests, and he's likely still ahead of his mark.
Ballyfinn (IRE)
Relished the emphasis on stamina when notching a first chase success at this C&D last month, beating Gata Ban by 4 lengths. Unsuited by the shorter trip here last time and he's respected only 1 lb worse off with that rival this time.
Gata Ban (IRE)
Step back in the right direction when second to Ballyfinn at C&D last week and built on that when recording a smooth-travelling success in an 11-runner handicap chase at Worcester (23f, good to soft, 5/1) 4 days ago. Turned out quickly under a penalty now.
Edgewell (IRE)
Hasn't always convinced with his attitude but reacted well to a change of headgear when landing back-to-back Hereford handicaps in March/April. Lacklustre efforts on his last 3 outings, though, and reapplication of blinkers will need speak resurgence.
