Timeform View

KINGSTON NARCISSUS can gain compensation for his near miss in the Summer Plate and notch a second successive win in this event for Dan Skelton. Hat-trick-seeker Prairie Wolf may go one place better than he did in last year's renewal, with Genois best of the rest.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Primoz could be expected to race prominently. Of those in the front half of the betting forecast, Prairie Wolf might be well positioned in a slowly run affair: Of the better-fancied horses, Kingston Narcissus is most likely to be ridden furthest from the pace.

Timeform Comments

Matterhorn (FR)
Smart at his best for Paul Nicholls. Given a considerate return/yard debut at Ffos Las earlier this month. Again looks the stable second string and this is presumably a stepping stone to bigger targets.
Breaking Cover (IRE)
Progressive sort. Boasts an impressive strike rate in small-field events despite being prone to mistakes over fences. His proven form/fitness counted for plenty when completing a chase hat-trick under this claimer (3-3) at Kelso last time. May prove vulnerable up 3 lb in better company, though.
Prairie Wolf (IRE)
Well-held third on return in this corresponding race last season. Proved at least as good as ever when making it 3 wins from 4 starts in a strong handicap at Newbury (2½m) in March. Hat-trick a distinct possibility on that form, however, some from this yard have been needing their reappearance.
Primoz (IRE)
Quirky course winner who showed plenty of ability remains when useful ½-length second to Breaking Cover on return at Kelso (17f) last time. Now 2 lb better off with that rival, though probably unlikely he finds significant improvement for the run (goes well fresh/yard more forward this season).
Crebilly (IRE)
Has found some useful form in recent months without scaling the heights of his 2024 second in the Cheltenham Plate. Made it 2 wins from 4 starts in small-field handicap at Worcester prior to finishing 2¾-length third off this mark at Ffos Las latest. Harry Cobden now looks elsewhere.
Kingston Narcissus (FR)
On the up since clear-cut chasing debut at Hexham on final start for Rebecca Menzies in May. Unfortunate not to land the Summer Plate (badly hampered 4 out) when notching a third consecutive second at Market Rasen in July. Can make amends for connections who won last year's corresponding race.
Genois (FR)
Strong-staying type who won the 2024 renewal of this race off a 2 lb lower mark. Still operating at fairly useful level when winning twice last season, enhancing his good course record with success here over Christmas. The pick of Harry Cobden and headgear on first time since joining current yard.
