A case can be made for a few of these but DOUBLE MEANING teed himself up well for a profitable 2026 with a promising reappearance third at Newmarket so looks the way to go. The likeable Personal Best is next on the list on the back of a good recent Newbury third, although Percy Shelley and Pyleates also can play a prominent role in this intriguing handicap.

Timeform Comments

Marnier (IRE)
Got off the mark in Lingfield maiden in November. Better form since in handicaps this season, runner-up at Southwell (11f) before a solid sixth of 8 at Newmarket (1½m) last time. Considered.
Squire Danagher
A 4-time winner (at up to 1½m) in Ireland for Andrew Oliver in 2024. Failed to progress over hurdles for Ben Pauling last year (pulled up at Wincanton in November) but could bounce back returned to this sphere for his new yard.
Percy Shelley
Reliable dual-purpose performer who scored over hurdles last autumn. Back with a solid fourth at Goodwood (2m) in May before following it up with a very good hurdling second at Uttoxeter 20 days ago. Very much one to consider with Oisin Murphy now up.
Macari
A three-time winner (including over C&D) in 2025. Got back on track with second of 4 in handicap at Lingfield (1¾m) 18 days ago. Enters calculations off the same mark.
Personal Best
Likeable filly who deservedly doubled her career tally at Ffos Las (1¾m) last summer. Has returned in good nick, not enjoying the smoothest of passages when third of 8 in handicap at Newbury (2m) 12 days ago. Well in the mix off an unchanged mark.
Double Meaning
Progressive 4-y-o who scored twice on all-weather last autumn. Resumed from 7 months off with a promising third of 8 in handicap at Newmarket (1½m) 29 days ago, running on late having been hampered 3f out. Major claims if building on that.
Trojan Storm
Scored over 1¾m at Ascot last summer. However, he hasn't been in the same form since, refitted with a tongue strap when a below-par seventh of 10 in handicap at Salisbury (1½m) 21 days ago.
Pyleates
A half-sister to the stable's high-class 1½m winner Pyledriver. Took a step forward on her handicap debut with third of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (1½m) 26 days ago. Looks to have more to offer on her turf debut after just 4 runs.
Free World
Ran to a fair level on 2 of his 3 starts in Meydan but offered precious little on first outing for his new yard after 16 months off at York (1½m) recently. Handicapper eases his grip further but can only be watched after that.
