CLASSIC ENCOUNTER couldn't have gone much closer to maintaining an unbeaten record at Redcar last month and operating from an unchanged mark, George Boughey's 5-y-o gets the verdict to record career victory number 4. Great Chieftain can't have been right at Newmarket back in April, so he heads up the opposition having been freshened up since.

Timeform Comments

Classic Encounter (IRE)
Successful twice last season and capitalised on a slight ease in grade when opening his account for the season at Redcar in May. Lost out on the nod back there (1m, good) last month but can regain the winning thread from an unchanged mark.
Great Chieftain (IRE)
Better than ever when recording back-to-back handicap wins last May. Lightly raced since and proved to be a disappointment back on these shores when tailed off at Newmarket (1m, good) 3 months ago. Can't have been right that day so fancied to get back on track after a break.
Desert Shadow
Proving hard to win with but ran just about his best race down markedly in trip when second of 6 to reopposing Classic Encounter at Redcar (1m) in May, though he didn't settle ideally (in a first-time visor) or keep straight. 4 lb swing with that rival but hard to see him reversing the placings.
Huscal (IRE)
On long losing run but turned in his best effort of the season from a sliding mark when third of 14 at Newbury (7f, firm) just under a fortnight ago. Handicapper eases his grip further and there's a suspicion he might be a little better on all-weather.
