Timeform View

THUNDERING ON was below expectations in the Pretty Polly but she has to be given another chance to build on an exceptional performance when winning the Oaks at Epsom. Ribblesdale 1-2 Earth Shot and Johanna Walsh are both going the right way and may be best placed to capitalise if the favourite fails to fire.

Timeform Comments

Amelia Earhart (IRE)
Took 5 goes to win a race at 2 but she looked a different proposition stepped up in trip when stylishly making a winning return in Cheshire Oaks. Disappointing when beaten 18 lengths into sixth by Thundering On in the Oaks last time and now comes in for change of headgear (first-time cheekpieces).
Beautify (IRE)
Landed 6f course Group 2 before chasing home stablemate Precise in the Moyglare. Sixth of 11 in the Irish 1000 Guineas here (1m, good to firm) on second start this season and ran to a similar level when filling the same position in the Pretty Polly here (1¼m) 3 weeks ago. Up against it again.
Cameo (IRE)
Not progressing over 1m but showed much-improved form stepped up markedly in distance when winning Oaks Trial at Lingfield. Not in same form in Oaks at Epsom since and couldn't capitalise on a drop in grade when beaten favourite in the Blue Wind at Naas 10.4f, good) 24 days ago.
Composing (IRE)
Won Group 2 and Group 3 as a juvenile but yet to threaten in 3 starts this year, not fully convincing with her stamina for this trip when 5 lengths fifth of 12 to Earth Shot in Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot (1½m, good to firm) in first-time blinkers 30 days ago.
Earth Shot (IRE)
Looked exciting when landing the odds in a Newmarket maiden (1¼m) prior to going close in a Newmarket listed event. Continued her upward curve when winning 12-runner Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot (1½m) 30 days ago by head from Johanna Walsh, responding well to lead late on. Can do better again.
Inis Mor (FR)
Progressive at 2 yrs, winning first 2 of 3 starts. Edged out Earth Shot in a Goodwood listed event in May and fared best of those ridden near the pace when 2¼ lengths third of 11 to Diamond Necklace in Prix de Diane at Chantilly (10.4f) last month. Worth her place at this level again.
Johanna Walsh (IRE)
€460,000 Sea The Stars filly who came good at the third time of asking in maiden at Leopardstown (1¼m) in May. Much improved form upped in grade when a head second of 12 to Earth Shot in Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot (1½m), her inexperience perhaps just costing her. Should improve again.
Rebel Moon
500,000 gns yearling by Lope de Vega. Had Johanna Walsh in behind when making a winning debut at Gowran in April and coped well with the step up in grade when beating 4 rivals in the Blue Wind Stakes (11/4) at Naas (10.4f, good) 24 days ago. Hard to know exactly where her ceiling is.
Sparan Nua (IRE)
Unbeaten across 3 starts, winning a Naas maiden and Gowran minor event prior to taking the step up in class in her stride to complete the hat-trick in the 9-runner Munster Oaks at Cork (1½m, good, 11/4) 34 days ago. This is tougher but she's open to progress.
Sugar Island (IRE)
Ended her 2-y-o campaign with a win in a 1m Group 3 here. Had soft ground in her favour and made a bold enough bid from the front when 9¾ lengths third of 9 to Thundering On in Oaks at Epsom (1½m, good to soft) 43 days ago. Application of cheekpieces might suggest she's in for pacemaking duties.
Thundering On
Navan Group 3 winner who looked right out of the top drawer when blowing apart the Oaks at Epsom (1½m, good to soft) next time. Not in same form when 2½ lengths fourth of 8 in Pretty Polly Stakes here (1¼m, good to firm) 21 days ago but was found to be coughing post race and remains the one to beat.
