TALK OF NEW YORK posted a fine first effort at Group 1 level when third to Bow Echo in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last month so Charlie Appleby's colt is expected to prove a tough nut to crack dropped into Group 3 company. A step up to 1m and/or first-time blinkers may elicit further progress from Saber Strike, so he heads up the opposition, with Yazin rounding off the shortlist having been progressive prior to shaping as if amiss last time.

Timeform Comments

Andab (IRE)
Listed winner at Dundalk on final 2-y-o start and has bettered that form in defeat this year, placed on his first 4 starts. Shaped as if still in good form when seventh of 16 in Jersey Stakes last month (first home in near-side group) and the headgear is tweaked again for this return to 1m.
Catullus (IRE)
Returned from breathing and gelding operations with a smart performance to blow apart a 17-runner course handicap (good to firm) in May. Easy to put a line through his subsequent Jersey Stakes effort last month (second home in disadvantaged group) but clear second string for connections here.
Five Ways
Group 3 winner last year (also fourth in the Middle Park on final outing) and best effort of this season when length fourth of 9 in listed race at Chester (7f, good to firm) just under 3 weeks ago. This his first go over 1m and tough to see him getting involved.
Saber Strike (IRE)
Marked himself down as potentially high class when making it 2-2 in 7f Newmarket listed race on reappearance in May. Hasn't fully confirmed that big impression in 2 subsequent outings (third to Qirat in York Group 3 latterly) but still early days. First-time blinkers on and stepped up to 1m.
Shayem (IRE)
Won 3 of his 4 starts as a juvenile and having taken time to get going this campaign, proved at least as good as ever when winning 7-runner listed race at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) just over 3 weeks ago, seen to advantage from the front. More required back in pattern company.
Talk Of New York
Highly progressive colt who has benefited from the addition of a hood, notching a third career success in Heron Stakes at Sandown in May. Posted a fine first effort at Group 1 level when third of 6 to Bow Echo in St James's Palace Stakes last month and is the one to beat with better to come.
Yazin
Progressive colt who made it back-to-back novice wins at Newmarket last October and having had a breathing operation, completed a hat-trick in 3-runner conditions event at Southwell (1m) on return in April. Shaped as if amiss the following month but worth another chance. First-time tongue tie on.
