Timeform View

A tricky finale to solve but the vote goes to EVOCATIVE SPARK, who shaped as if better for the run at Haydock recently and John Riches' 7-y-o can add a fourth C&D success to his CV. Classy Clarets rates as an obvious danger having rattled off a 4-timer in the space of 17 days recently, with Runninsonofagun and Emerald Army another couple fancied to be in the shake-up, as well.

Timeform Comments

Folkene (FR)
Ex-French filly who made a winning start for current yard at Newmarket (7f) last summer and improved from her return effort when fourth of 8 at Wetherby in April. Followed that with a shocker back at latter track (7f) in June and hasn't been seen since.
Evocative Spark (IRE)
Four course wins since last autumn, including 3 this year. Shaped as if better for the run after 10 weeks off when seventh of 11 at Haydock (7f, good to firm) 10 days ago and that should have put him spot on for this. Merits consideration.
Classy Clarets (IRE)
Headstrong sort who arrives here firmly at the top of his game, managing to narrowly complete a 4-timer in 8-runner event at Hamilton (5f, firm) last month. Up another 6 lb but another bold bid looks on the cards following a short break.
Runninsonofagun (IRE)
In good form over 1m at Ayr in blinkers recently, winning on the first occasion and showing even better form in defeat all 3 starts since, not having an easy time of things in front on latest. Blinkers quickly reapplied and hard to rule out in this vein of form.
Carolus Magnus (IRE)
Has built a fine record at Musselburgh and showed his best form in over 2 years when winning there in June. Ran at least as well in defeat when second of 7 at Beverley (7.3f) just under 3 weeks ago and should remain competitive nudged up 1b.
Black Storm (IRE)
Yet to score for current connections but arrives at the top of his game, third of 12 at Ayr (7f, good to firm) 9 days ago, not knuckling down so well as the first 2 having looked to be travelling better. Handicapper eases his grip further and he's one for the shortlist.
No Return (IRE)
Headstrong sort who won twice over 6f in Ireland last spring and best effort for present yard when runner-up at Lingfield in January. Rather going through the motions since, taking an even stronger hold than usual at Carlisle (6f) just over 6 weeks ago. Remains opposable.
Willolarupi (IRE)
Successful at Redcar (6f) last spring and went very close at Pontefract next time. However, not at that level since and made a low-key return at latter track last month. May well strip fitter for that here back up at 7f.
Vince Le Prince
3-time C&D winner but on a lengthy losing run. Went close to ending that over C&D on penultimate start but struggled back up in trip/grade with cheekpieces reapplied at Redcar (1m) 9 days ago.
Emerald Army (IRE)
Scored over C&D last summer and ran his best race for current yard to resume winning ways in 11-runner event at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) earlier in the month. Nudged up just 3 lb and can make his presence felt once again.
