A tough call but BLUE HERCULES is marginally preferred following a couple of fairly useful efforts in Ascot handicaps recently. Winday makes a belated return to the Flat for his shrewd Irish yard (first runner at this track) and is feared, especially if supported.

Timeform Comments

Blue Hercules (IRE)
Fairly useful maiden. Well placed the way things unfolded when runner-up in Class 2 handicap at Ascot last month. Wasn't disgraced when beaten just over 4 lengths in a Shergar Cup event there last time, keenness again compromising his finishing effort. Must have serious claims back in a maiden.
Pacific Storm (FR)
€100,000 purchase. Attracted support at long odds/achieved more than on debut when down the field in a Goodwood maiden (1¾m) in June. Subsequently gelded and this drop back in trip suggests he could be a handicap project (dam and half-brother both won over further).
Phantom Recon (IRE)
€340,000 Teofilo gelding. Showed plenty to work on when fourth in a Windsor novice (1¼m 50/1) on debut. Much tighter in the betting when seemingly stretched by the longer trip at Goodwood (1¾m) subsequently. Could be worth another chance if market vibes are positive returning from 10-week break.
Winday (FR)
Third in a strong Tipperary maiden (9f) this time last year. Back with shrewd Emmet Mullins yard (tongue strap added) following her third in a listed hurdle at Auteuil on final start for M. Seror in late-May. Interesting returning to the Flat over a longer trip, especially if the money is down.
Neswick
Shaped with plenty of promise when close third in a 1¼m Lingfield maiden on debut in late-April. Again offered something to work with when 3½ lengths fourth on return over same C&D last time. Bumps into a couple with stronger form, though is likely to improve for the step up in trip on turf debut.
Saaffya
Masar filly. Closely related to useful 13.3f-16.2f winner Mobbhij and half-sister to several winners, including very smart 1m-10.4f winner Sajjhaa. Dam 10.6f winner on debut. Stable 0-7 with newcomers at this track. This one has plenty to recommend her on paper, though, and needs a market check.
