Timeform View

MR LINCOLN has been running consistently well over hurdles and may be able to snap his losing sequence. Alvesta is 4 lb higher for his defeat of the selection last time and should go well again. Zamond, Ambassador, Mi Sueno and Lord of The Glance are others to consider in a competitive opener.

Timeform Comments

Zamond (FR)
Veteran bumped into one at Newcastle last winter and again here on penultimate start. Deservedly went one better in a C&D handicap last time, having won the race 4 years prior. He's building up a solid course record and looks as good as when successful off this mark earlier in his career.
Mr Lincoln
Still a borderline fairly useful performer on Flat (forgiven latest at Ayr). Made the running when 3 lengths behind Alvesta over C&D last month but may be ridden more patiently given likely pace in the race here. Now 4 lb better off with Alvesta and fancied to go close in bid to snap losing run.
Masekela (IRE)
Only fair middle-distance performer on the Flat last year (contested much better races earlier in his career). Has undergone another breathing operation following distant third over C&D on qualifying run. Tricky customer nowadays and his opening mark demands improvement.
Lord Of The Glance
Showed improved form to get off the mark at Stratford in March. Would have gone very close but for a late unseat at Plumpton subsequently and still in good form when bumping into one at Market Rasen in early-May. Likely to take a hand if ready to roll.
Mi Sueno (IRE)
Career-best success when making it 2 from 3 for capable yard at Stratford (19f) on Tuesday evening. Now carries a 7-lb penalty in a more competitive race, however, he did win with a bit in hand last time.
Alvesta
Fair Flat performer. Benefitted from the step back in trip when making it 2-2 over C&D in smooth style last month. She hasn't been long with good local yard and is entitled to run another big race off 4 lb higher.
Malangen (IRE)
Front-running veteran may have gone off the boil following a creditable start to the summer. Never looked like recording a fifth Perth success when beaten 14¼ lengths there last time.
Sadies Diamond (IRE)
Hit-and-miss maiden who clearly hasn't been the easiest to train. Got closer than previously for current yard when 3¾ lengths third of 8 in mares handicap at Stratford on return. Needs more again in a deeper race.
Ambassador (IRE)
Now 11 lb lower than when making the most of an uncontested lead in this corresponding event 12 months ago. Possibly still in need of the run when beaten 14 lengths behind Zamond here last time. On an attractive mark, though may not get it all his own way with Malangen in the field.
Jeepydoff Meel (FR)
Finished second here a couple of times when trained by Philip Kirby. Hasn't shown any worthwhile form in a while, though, and has plenty to prove on return.
Mr Globalist (IRE)
Ran his best race since joining current yard when 3¾ lengths third over C&D last month. Probably found the race coming too soon when well-held here 2 days later. Has been freshened up but his strike rate (maiden under both codes, 0-32 over hurdles/fences) speaks for itself.
Hopjes (SAF)
Modest at best on the Flat. Shown nothing over hurdles and has undergone a breathing operation since last month's Stratford run (when reported to have bled).
