Timeform View

This is wide open but it could prove worth siding with Harry Charlton's improving Dubawi colt BESIEGED who spreadeagled his field when getting off the mark at Salisbury and looks to have a fair bit more to offer now stepping into handicap company. Recent impressive York victor Stoneacre Donny rates a big threat though under a 6 lb penalty, while Irish raider Darius Dark and the unexposed Knights Charge also need considering in this highly competitive event.

Timeform Comments

Bourbon Blues
Useful performer who is holding his form well this season, placed in good-quality 1¼m handicaps at Goodwood and York on last 2 runs. Merits consideration again nudged up 1 lb with Ryan Moore up.
Spyce
Useful juvenile winner. Advanced his form when fourth in London Gold Cup at Newbury (1¼m) in May and not disgraced when in midfield in Golden Gates at Royal Ascot (1¼m, good to firm) in June. Has since had a breathing operation and could still do better.
Besieged
Progressive Dubawi colt. Promising second on first 2 outings before wide-margin winner of maiden at Salisbury (1¼m, heavy) in June. Back from 3 months with a profile which strongly suggests he'll have more to offer in handicaps. Interesting.
Runman
Frankel colt. Landed 1m novices on his first 2 starts and bounced back from a below-par showing in the Brittania at Royal Ascot with success in 4-runner handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good to firm) 26 days ago by length from Wild Thoughts. May do better still after just 5 runs.
King Of Earth
Opened his account in Wolverhampton maiden in June and followed up on handicap debut at the Curragh (9f) later in June. Faced a stiff task when beating one in Strensall Stakes at York (9f, good to soft) 19 days ago. Not written off back in handicap company for his in-form yard.
Knights Charge (IRE)
Improving Lucky Vega colt who went 2-3 with cosy success in 10-runner novice at Nottingham (1¼m, good to soft) in May. Open to progress on his handicap debut after a break. Needs considering.
Wild Thoughts (IRE)
In fine form in the spring and completed a four-timer at Carlisle (1m) in May. Got back on the up when second of 4 to Runman in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good to firm) 26 days ago, though he hung left when in front and was collared late on. May do better still delivered later.
Strength Of Spirit (IRE)
Gained a second win of 2026 with a career best in 13-runner handicap at Hamilton (9f, good to firm) 30 days ago. Should remain competitive after 3 lb rise in the weights.
Stoneacre Donny
Shaped well several times this season before easily doubling his tally in 15-runner handicap at York (1¼m, good) 4 days ago. Weighted to go close under a 6 lb penalty.
Sintra
Kingman colt who looked on the up when getting off the mark at Ascot (1¼m) and backed it up with a solid seventh of 10 in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good) later in May. Since gelded and not out of things off a 2 lb lower mark here.
Darius Dark (IRE)
Completed a hat-trick in 1½m handicaps at the Curragh in June. Not best drawn at Galway next time but back on the up with fourth of 11 in handicap at Leopardstown (13f, good) 3 weeks ago. This Irish challenger is not taken lightly in refitted cheekpieces.
