MAELSTROM got back on the up for current connections with wins at Newmarket and this C&D in August/September, so he's well worth another chance having had excuses at Doncaster last time. He gets the vote ahead of Gold Star Hero, who was denied late on by the selection here last month, with Adrestia also considered on the back of her latest effort.

Timeform Comments

Adrestia
Landed the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes over C&D last summer. Down the field first 4 starts this season, though met trouble in running at Glorious Goodwood and bounced back to form (cheekpieces added) when beaten only a head by Ancient State at Doncaster. Respected.
Gold Star Hero (IRE)
Landed an all-weather hat-trick during the spring and has matched that form on turf with placed efforts over C&D 2 of last 3 starts, close third of 12 to Maelstrom on latest outing. Can make his presence felt.
All Ways Glamorous
Proved better than ever with back-to-back wins at Ffos Las and this C&D during the summer. Possibly unsuited by testing conditions when fourth of 6 at Goodwood 5 weeks ago, though not for the first time hung right. Could fare better back here on firmer ground.
Havana Hurricane
Won 2 of first 3 starts last year, including the Windsor Castle over this C&D. Ran well when third of 5 on handicap debut at Sandown in July but hasn't gone on from that effort since, tried in blinkers/tongue strap (now discarded) over 6f here last time.
Ancient State (IRE)
Successful 4 times for present stable this year, taking his form up a notch when battling well for success over Adrestia at Doncaster last month. Continued in good heart when fourth of 10 at Haydock 7 days ago. Cheekpieces now added.
Regal Envoy (IRE)
In top form to start the campaign, successful at Bath in May and Windsor the following month. Found things tougher later in the summer, but having edged back down in the weights he returned to form when runner-up on all-weather at Lingfield 3 weeks ago. Tongue strap fitted.
Eternal Sunshine
Struggled for consistency this season but opened account for the year at Hamilton in August. Well held in the Portland at Doncaster (won same race in 2025) next time, but bounced back in first-time cheekpieces when narrowly denied at Newmarket 9 days ago.
Rosario (IRE)
Justified support from his falling mark when scoring at Sandown in August, but made no impression back up in grade when down the field in the Portland at Doncaster 3 weeks ago. Cheekpieces now reapplied.
Glamorous Breeze
Strong-travelling mare who won 3 times in 2025 and returned as good as ever this season, including when fifth of 15 over C&D in July. However, she hasn't been in quite the same form on her last 2 starts, not finding as much as looked likely when fifth of 12 here last month.
Bone Marra (IRE)
All 3 wins on all-weather, the latest at Southwell (6f) in June. Placed over 7f at Wolverhampton/Lingfield next 2 outings, before matching that form back on turf (soft ground) when third of 24 in the Ayr Bronze Cup. Drop back in trip might not be ideal, though.
Maelstrom
Won first 3 handicaps (all at 6f) for William Haggas last year and recorded first success for current yard at Newmarket (5f) in August. Followed up over this C&D, before not ideally drawn at Doncaster 20 days ago. Stall one to contend with again but a strong pace promises to suit. Major player.
Atticum
Off the mark at the third attempt in a Yarmouth novice last year. Hasn't been able to find any progress in handicaps so far this season, third of 6 at Sandown on latest outing, though he still remains lightly raced taking on his elders for only the second time.
Rhythm N Hooves
Bounced back to winning ways at Newbury (landed same race in 2025) in August, before left poorly placed towards the far side when 4 lengths eighth of 12 to Maelstrom over this C&D last time. Remains on a handy mark based on old form.
Fantasy Master
Without a win this season but was beaten only a head by Maelstrom at Newmarket in August. Has added to a patchy record since, though, below par at Yarmouth next time before just edged out at Doncaster 20 days ago. Back up in grade here.
