BRAVE TRAVELLER needs to prove himself as effective on turf as on all-weather, but he arrives having pulled nicely clear of the remainder having found only another improver too strong at Newcastle 17 days ago and is selected to prove the point from his high draw. Showtown looks a likely danger, with returning Napolian, Von Trotter and Empress Olivia others worth a look.

Timeform Comments

Napolian (IRE)
Showed plenty of ability in 4 starts as a juvenile, albeit failing to see his race out tackling softer ground than previously when fourth at Pontefract (6f) in September. Just the type his yard do well with having been gelded ahead of return/handicap debut but has looked worth a try at 5f.
Showtown (IRE)
Maiden who wasted no time getting back to form having returned to this trip when fourth at Haydock (soft) 2 weeks ago, albeit not posing much of a win threat. Best effort to date came under an attacking ride, so positive tactics from high draw may well suit ideally.
Von Trotter
Runner-up on all 3 starts in all-weather novice/maidens but appeared to find things too competitive making handicap debut in a big field York contest (5f) 3 weeks ago. Distinctly possible he can get back on the up returned to calmer waters back at 6f.
Daizen (IRE)
Ended his juvenile season in good style with success in a 6f Ayr maiden and most encouraging effort of this season came when fifth at Haydock (6f, soft) 2 weeks ago, possibly just sent for home too soon. Not discounted from career-low mark.
Logi Bear (IRE)
Lost his way following a promising start as a 2-y-o and has yet to fire in 2 starts this spring for present stable. Others make greater appeal.
Empress Olivia
Has returned an improved model in 2026, confirming reappearance promise as she landed 13-runner handicap at Ripon (6f) in April. Caught out by draw/track position at Ascot since and no surprise to see her quickly back to form.
Brave Traveller
Took a step forward when rallying late to win 6f nursery at Newcastle in December and posted easily best effort since when runner-up over 5f there 17 days ago. 5 lb higher now and needs to prove himself as effective on turf but definite claims if doing so.
Hvar
Progressive form for Ralph Beckett last autumn, culminating with 6f Wolverhampton novice success in October. However, well held all 3 starts in turf handicaps for new yard so far this season.
Bye Law (IRE)
Bagged a pair of 6f novices at Ayr and Redcar last summer. Has failed to kick on since, finishing no better than midfield all 3 starts at up to 7f in recent months.
Real Jack
Much improved when second in a Newcastle novice (5f) on final start 2-y-o start in November. Similar form when sixth on return/handicap debut at Southwell in April and step up to 7f may not have suited ideally since.
Uncertainty (IRE)
Fair maiden (trained by Richard Hannon first 6 starts) but yet to scale same heights in 3 starts for present yard, making little impact at Ripon (6f) 8 days ago. Others rate much stronger.
Perineighs (IRE)
Ended her 2-y-o campaign with a good third of 9 in nursery at Nottingham (5f, soft, 28/1) in October. Off 6 months and will need an improved effort to get off the mark on her return. Stable took this 12 months ago.
Different Opinions (IRE)
Fair form when second on 7f Chelmsford debut in March but not kicked on in trio of subsequent starts in novice events. Now tried in a visor for handicap debut and too soon to be writing him off given stable he represents and market confidence would look significant.
