Timeform View

ENGLISH TIME and Race To The Edge both caught the eye in the same Newbury novice last month. The former was 2 lengths ahead of Roger Varian's charge on that occasion and is taken to confirm that superiority and make it third time lucky. Previous winners Shipbourne and Flight Control should also be on the premises.

Timeform Comments

Flight Control (IRE)
Calyx gelding who was sold unraced by Coolmore last autumn and looked a shrewd purchase in making a winning start in 14-runner 6f course novice (good to firm). Backed it up when third under a penalty here (6f again) 3 weeks ago and he's now up in trip.
Shipbourne
Frankel colt who made a winning start at Newbury (6.5f, heavy) last autumn. Didn't improve as expected when third of 12 over 7f at Kempton in December but the 2 who beat him are useful. Retains potential on return.
Albemagic
33/1, hinted at ability when seventh of 11 in novice at Carlisle (7f, soft, 33/1) on debut 19 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Likely to do better in time.
Binmalk
Kingman colt who finished behind English Time and Race To The Edge when twelfth of 15 in novice at Newbury (7f, good, 16/1) on debut 22 days ago. William Buick is on board but he'll need to take a good step forward to come out on top.
Blue Icon (IRE)
14/1, well-held fifth (Flight Control 6 lengths ahead in third) of 10 in novice at this course (6f, good) on debut 21 days ago. More one for the longer term on that evidence.
Brave New World (IRE)
33/1, eleventh of 14 in novice at Kempton (7f) on debut 37 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals.
Deadline (FR)
Kameko gelding half-brother to several winners but sold unraced out of Brian Meehan's yard for only 2,000 gns in March. A watching brief is advised unless the betting suggests otherwise.
English Time (IRE)
Left last autumn's debut behind when promising 2 lengths fourth of 15 in novice at Newbury (7f, good) 3 weeks ago, finishing off well. Likely to improve again and the one to beat.
Race To The Edge
80/1, promising seventh of 15 in novice at Newbury (7f, good) on debut 22 days ago, finishing with running left. Looks sure to improve but the reopposing English Time was 2 lengths ahead of him at Newbury.
Lineofsuccession
50/1, sixth of 8 in maiden at Pontefract (6f, good to soft) on debut 15 days ago.
Mass For Kathleen
66/1, only modest form when third of 5 in novice at Haydock (7f, soft) on debut 16 days ago. Plenty more will be needed to take this.
Park Lane Penny (IRE)
80/1, remote sixth of 10 in maiden at Redcar (1m, good to firm) on debut 12 days ago.
