GRAND CLERMONT won with such ease on his second outing for David Pipe at Uttoxeter that he looks capable of defying a 10 lb rise in the weights. The Nicky Henderson-trained pair, Ideal des Bordes and Excello, head the opposition.

Timeform Comments

Peaky Boy (IRE)
Won 3 of 4 starts over hurdles/fences (all at Cheltenham) for Nicky Henderson in 2024. Lightly raced and well below that level for current yard since but did show he still has something to offer back down in grade when third in 6-runner handicap at Uttoxeter (3m) latest.
Stumps Or Slips (IRE)
Prolific winner, including 2 recent hunter chase victories for Edward William Walker but hasn't been missed by the assessor ahead of this return to handicap company for new stable.
Excello (FR)
Thirteen runs since last win in 2023 but was an excellent third in Grand Sefton from a 4 lb higher mark last autumn. Hasn't reproduced that form in 4 subsequent outings but this represents a drop in grade.
Bagheera Ginge
Resumed winning ways in a change of headgear when making all in 6-runner handicap chase at Stratford (23f, good to soft, 9/1) 25 days ago. That was a weak race however, and likely to face competition for the lead.
Grand Clermont (FR)
French import who ended his time there with a pair of claiming chase wins and left an underwhelming British debut behind when landing 7-runner handicap at Uttoxeter (3m) in emphatic fashion 18 days ago. Hiked up 10 lb but that still may not be enough to prevent the follow up.
Presentandcounting (IRE)
Useful chaser at best who took advantage of a slipping mark at Uttoxeter (2½m) last summer. Confirmed he retains ability on second start back from a break when second of 3 in 23f handicap at Kelso last month.
Samuel Spade (GER)
Five-time winner over hurdles but has long been clumsy in that sphere and predictably found the fences getting in the way on his chasing debut over C&D a fortnight ago.
Ideal Des Bordes (FR)
Confirmed his return to form when second of 6 in handicap chase at Newbury (3¼m, good) in December and has gone well fresh before, so must enter the reckoning despite his patchy profile.
My Bobby Dazzler
Not the most reliable but ended a long losing run in 7-runner veterans event at Hereford (25f) in February and rather encouragingly backed that up with a fast-finishing second in an 11-runner handicap at Haydock (3¼m, good). Didn't get home tried over an extreme distance at Cartmel (29f) latest.
Disco Davis (FR)
Ended a run of non-completions when fourth in selling hurdle at Stratford in March (final start for Dan Skelton). Matched the form sent chasing on first outing for new connections (sold for only 1,000 gns) when third in 9-runner handicap here last month, though isn't sure to go the right way.
