A big-field opener with any number in with chances. The vote goes to JANNAS JOURNEY, who enjoyed a remarkable summer last year with 7 wins and her latest fourth at Carlisle was easily her best effort of this campaign. She can get the better of Tokyo Joe, who was far from disgraced on return at Ascot last month and promises to be suited by this return to 7f. Great Dream, Inspired and Criminal Shore are just a handful of others worth considering, too.

Timeform Comments

Esherann (FR)
Dual winner over 1m for Dermot Weld last season fitted with headgear (not worn yet this year). Still finding his feet for current connections, looking a hard ride when ninth of 13 at Thirsk (1m, good to soft) last month and it's surprising the headgear is still omitted.
Lir Speciale (IRE)
Ended 2025 with back-to-back wins over 7f in the mud at Doncaster. Good third-placed efforts in competitive handicaps on first couple of starts this season but run of good form halted at Newbury (1m, good) last month. Bounce back needed but that's possible.
Sword
Quirky sort who ran no sort of race on first outing since leaving David O'Meara for 40,000 gns when last of 8 at Lingfield (7.6f, good to firm) last month. Tongue tie worn that day retained and easy to look elsewhere.
Lord Bertie (FR)
Found things panning out ideally when opening his account for present yard over at Doncaster in October. Has typically looked an awkward ride in both starts this season but is capable of a big run from this mark if on a going day, with any rain a plus.
Our Havana
Four-time winner who ended last season with a bit of a whimper. Dangerously well handicapped as a result and worth keeping a close eye on in the betting on reappearance (had breathing operation in interim).
Leadman
Successful over this trip at Newmarket last year and shaped better than bare result on occasions thereafter. Dominated the betting after an eye-catching display over C&D last month but didn't give his running at all 8 days later, the run probably coming too soon. Worth another chance.
Great Dream
Newcastle maiden winner last September. Signed off for 2025 with an improved third of 13 in handicap at Yarmouth (7f) in October but below expectations when sixth of 11 at Salisbury (1m, good to soft) on yard debut/return recently, possibly needing the run. Better expected returned to 7f.
Eligible (IRE)
Reliable veteran completed a hat-trick at Southwell in January. Below his best the last twice and finished down the field in this corresponding race 12 months ago.
Count Palatine (IRE)
Dual winner around 7f in 2025 and showed the benefit of a couple of spins around Thirsk when third of 10 at Carlisle (1m, good) under this rider recently. Each-way claims returned to 7f.
Wobwobwob (IRE)
Hasn't won since 2024 but that's reflected in his mark. Returned to some sort of form with a couple of outings under his belt and a visor reapplied when fifth of 8 at Goodwood (7f, soft) 5 days ago. Hard to see him featuring in this.
Jannas Journey (IRE)
Enjoyed a remarkable 2025 when a 7-time winner from 6f to 1m. Produced easily her best effort of the campaign to get in amongst the 3-y-os when fourth of 9 at Carlisle (7f, good) just under 2 weeks ago, doing her best work late from off just a fair gallop. One to take seriously.
Quest For Fun
C&D winner last summer who confirmed the promise of his appearance here 8 days earlier when third of 22 just under 3 weeks ago, sure to have gone closer still but for again encountering trouble. No reason why he won't be in the mix again.
Oriental Prince
Good record at Newcastle but looked a shade rusty after 4 months off when fifth of 6 at Hamilton (5f, firm) recently. On a fair mark back and wouldn't dismiss in reapplied headgear with that outing under his belt.
Mister Sox
Four-time winner last year and showed the benefit of reappearance when second of 9 at Thirsk early last month. Not so good the last twice but now below last winning mark and this is a rare start at 7f these days.
Inspired (IRE)
Wide-margin winner of a Newcastle maiden (1m) in December who caught eye when fourth over C&D last month, coming home best after finding his path blocked more than once. Unable to justify favouritism at Wetherby (7f, firm) since but worth another chance to confirm course promise.
Criminal Shore (IRE)
Raised his game after a series of unplaced efforts to belatedly get his head back in front in 12-runner event at Newcastle (1m) 10 days ago, value more as he had to wait fully a furlong for a gap in the closing stages. In the mix again under a penalty should similar tactics be employed.
Orne (IRE)
Without a win since his 2-y-o days but got back on track from a career-low mark when third of 14 at Wetherby (7f, firm) last week. Ran well over C&D last month and certainly not discounted.
The Green Man (IRE)
Recorded three wins at Newcastle last year, the latest in December. Consistent in defeat subsequently and can have recent third of 10 there upgraded given he was the only one to get involved from the rear in a steadily-run affair. Not out of things if translating that to turf.
Feel The Need
Successful in this race 12 months ago and ran a cracker when runner-up at Southwell in January. Recent effort over C&D presumably a stepping stone and would be folly to discount from 1 lb below last year's winning mark.
Native Honey (IRE)
Finally off the mark at Ayr last summer and produced a career-best effort back at 7f to double his tally in a handicap there last month. Seemed unsuited by a further drop in trip when well held at Carlisle (6f, good) just under a fortnight ago and better anticipated returned to 7f.
Tokyo Joe
Suited by a sound gallop when getting off the mark in a Lingfield novice in December. Kept to 6f and shaped as if that trip is a bare minimum for him returned to a handicap when sixth of 18 at Ascot (good to firm) last month. Entitled to come on from that and this return to 7f will suit.
