UPPER EAST cost plenty as a yearling and made encouraging start when fourth in a strong novice at Doncaster last week. He gets the nod over the regally-bred Gosden-trained newcomer Humphrey and Kinetic Impact.

Timeform Comments

Humphrey
Pinatubo colt. Closely related to smart 11f winner Lionel and half-brother to very smart 11f-1¾m winner Gregory. A very interesting contender from a top-class family these connections have had plenty of success with.
Kinetic Impact
45,000 gns foal, 90,000 gns yearling, Zelzal colt. Showed plenty to work on when fourth of 8 in novice (22/1) at Chepstow (1¼m, good to firm) on debut 15 days ago, keeping on late inside the final 1f. Should improve.
Kudos Too
Aclaim gelding. Half-brother to 2-y-o 1m winner Prontamente and 6f/7f winner Johnny Reb. Dam unraced sister to 1000 Guineas winner Speciosa. Makes debut in a hot-looking race and others make more appeal.
Tropbien
Frankel colt. Dam winner up to 1m (2-y-o 7f winner), won Prix de la Grotte and second in Prix Maurice de Gheest. Shaped as if needing the experience when ninth of 11 in maiden at Newbury (1¼m, good, 16/1) on debut 29 days ago, but this smartly-bred colt is likely to improve.
Turty Tree (IRE)
New Bay colt showed fairly useful form when placed on his first 3 starts but didn't particularly seem to handle the track very well when fourth of 5 in novice (3/1) at Newmarket (1½m, good to firm) 28 days ago. Player if able to bounce back in first-time cheekpieces.
Upper East (IRE)
300,000 gns yearling, Mehmas colt. Produced a fairly promising first effort when fourth of 5 in novice at Doncaster (1m, firm) on debut 8 days ago and he should progress plenty now upped in trip.
