A competitive sprint but it's still hard to ignore the claims of STIRRUP CUP, who is proving consistent this season and goes unpenalised for a recent apprentice victory at Carlisle. Course specialist and 2024 victor Iris Dancer should ensure Tim Easterby's 4-y-o doesn't have things all his own way though, while fellow C&D scorers Doon The Glen and Annie Edson Taylor can also play a prominent role.

Timeform Comments

Stirrup Cup
Built on earlier promise this season when landing 8-runner apprentice handicap at Carlisle (6f) 9 days ago. This C&D winner escapes a penalty here so holds leading claims.
Catalyse (IRE)
Regressive last season for Richard Fahey and has fared no better in 3 starts for new yard this year. Has something to prove.
Pop Star (IRE)
Tongue strap reapplied when back to winning ways in 5f handicap at Carlisle in May. Didn't enjoy the smoothest of passages when a solid fourth to Stirrup Cup there (6f) 9 days ago so can't be ruled out.
Emperor's Son (IRE)
Added to his debut success at Wolverhampton (5f) in January. Largely in good nick since, back from 4 months off with fourth of 10 in handicap at Pontefract (6f) 9 days ago.
Maldevious (IRE)
Still a maiden but she comes here in decent form, fourth of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 29 days ago.
Annie Edson Taylor
Resumed winning ways in 10-runner handicap at Thirsk (6f) 12 days ago. This C&D winner needs considering despite 2 lb weights rise.
Iris Dancer
Took this 12 months ago and she bagged a remarkable 10th C&D victory in 6-runner handicap 7 days ago. Saddles a 4 lb penalty but remains handily weighted on old form. Player.
Doon The Glen
Refitted with a visor when gaining a first handicap victory in 7-runner event over C&D 7 days ago, suited by way race developed. Not out of things under a 5 lb penalty with headgear retained.
