Timeform View

REGULUS BLACK confirmed the promise of his handicap debut third when running out a pretty convincing winner at Chepstow 3 weeks ago and, appealing as the type to rate higher still, he looks to hold prime claims now his stamina is tested further. Fellow 3-y-o Stepanov rates next best, ahead of recent course scorer Uncle Liam.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Stepanov traded at 25% or less of Betfair SP and 50% or less of Betfair SP on 2 of its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Tee Aitch Aye (IRE)
Sole win came from a 3 lb higher mark over 9f here in September but has yet to fire in 3 starts this season, always behind when seventh of 8 in handicap over shorter here 2 weeks ago. Marked drop in class rates a plus but others arrive with much more pressing claims.
Galahad Threepwood
9-y-o who last tasted success over hurdles for Ben Pauling in 2023. Proved he still has something to offer when third in that sphere at Kelso in May of last year but he's been absent ahead of this. Percentage call is to look elsewhere.
Roger Henry (IRE)
Dual winner in 2024 who missed all of last year and readily surpassed what he'd achieved on first 2 starts this season in refitted blinkers when 3 lengths sixth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (12.5f) 2 weeks ago. That gives him something to build on from further reduced mark.
Annandale (IRE)
Made a lot more impact down in 0-55 company when second of 10 at Wolverhampton (1¾m) in February and satisfactory return from 4 months off when fourth over 13f here 2 weeks ago, not best placed the way the race developed. Attractively treated if building on that down in trip.
Uncle Liam (IRE)
Knocked firmly at the door during second half of last season and surpassed previous exploits this time around when shedding maiden tag in determined fashion over 1½m here 2 weeks ago. Clearly versatile as regards trip/ground and possibilities again up 3 lb.
Stepanov (IRE)
Expensive yearling who has gone the right way in 5 starts to date, under a change of tactics when finding only a well-treated sort too strong at Wetherby (1¼m, firm) 13 days ago. Definite possibilities now taking on his elders for the first time.
Regulus Black
Didn't offer much in his qualifying runs but much more like it switched to handicaps, building on his promising Beverley third when successful at Chepstow (1¼m, good to firm) 3 weeks ago. Pedigree an ongoing recommendation and likely he can rate higher still now stamina is tested further.
