Timeform View

An open-looking feature contest in which it could pay to take a chance on OSTEND, who is potentially well treated on old form and has been snapped up cheaply by the in-form Mickey Bowen yard since last seen. Genois ran too badly to be true at Aintree 5 weeks ago so he can give the selection most to think about, with last-time-out winner Gateau de Miel rounding off the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Mahons Glory (IRE)
Capitalised on drop in grade when making all at Huntingdon in March and shaped better than the distance beaten suggested when sixth of 27 in the Topham Chase at Aintree next start. Not so good at Sandown last time but not dismissed having been runner-up on both previous visits here.
Bhaloo (IRE)
A dual winner (at up to 2m 4f) in 2024/25 and went with more zest in a race with no competition for the lead after 5 months off when second of 6 at Uttoxeter (3m, good) 7 weeks ago. Stable form a worry (had just one winner at a strike rate of only 5% so far this season).
Genois (FR)
Cashed in on a much-reduced mark at Wetherby in December and in excellent heart since, a veterans' chase win at Exeter in March flanked by runner-up efforts. Easy to back and run of good form halted at Aintree (2½m, good) 5 weeks ago but can quickly get back on track.
Bleu D'enfer (FR)
Signed off for Stuart Crawford with breakthrough chase win at Carlisle last spring. Record for this yard since has been patchy, avoiding mistakes for once and running well under more patient tactics than of late when second of 9 at Aintree (2½m, good) 5 weeks ago. Needs to build on that.
Seaview Rock
Confirmed debut promise when winning maiden hurdle at Leicester in January. Seemingly outbattled on chase bow at Southwell on final start for Olly Murphy (sold for £30,000) and not seen to best effect back there earlier in the month. Back up in trip.
Gateau De Miel (FR)
Had made a successful start for a new yard at Stratford the previous June and repeated the trick from the same mark almost 12 months on in 5-runner handicap chase there (21f, good) just under 3 weeks ago. That form has already taken several knocks, so he's got his work cut out from 7 lb higher.
Ostend (IRE)
Maiden hurdle winner in Ireland who capitalised on a falling mark and the run of the race when opening his account over fences at this track last spring. Lost his way for Alistair Ralph but potentially thrown in on old form for an in-form yard (bought for just £4,000).
