Timeform View

NOVAK is well treated and this 7f trip should suit better than the 6f he tackled when third at Hamilton 9 days ago, where he'd have gone closer but for missing the break. Black Storm was narrowly denied in a higher grade at Musselburgh last time and is a threat if settling better, while course winner Ashen can make his presence felt.

Timeform Comments

Black Storm (IRE)
Returned from 7-month absence in good form, making the frame twice before excellent second of 9 in a higher-grade handicap at Musselburgh 13 days ago, nailed late on after racing freely. Strong claims if settling better here.
Glorious Kitty (IRE)
Off the mark at this course in May and followed up in a handicap at Carlisle 21 days ago. Goes particularly well for this claimer but 5 lb higher mark demands more in pursuit of the hat-trick.
Catalyse (IRE)
Formerly with Richard Fahey but yet to show much in 4 starts for this yard, starting slowly every time.
Al Muqdad
Creditable third of 9 over C&D 30 days ago when back in 0-70 company for the first time since his last win. Twice a winner at this track and can make presence felt now he's dropped to the right level.
Ashen (IRE)
Not long with this yard and got off the mark over C&D in May, beating 6 rivals. Up 4 lb for that success but he's in the right hands to win more races this year.
Dorney Lake
Not easy to catch right and often makes a mess of the start, but he made late headway in first-time cheekpieces when fifth of 10 in a handicap at Pontefract 11 days ago and now tackles 0-70 company for the first time in his career so probably capable if things drop right and he lasts out over 7f.
The Gay Blade
In the form of his life with 5 wins from his last 8 starts, including back-to-back handicap wins at Carlisle, the latest over 7f 4 days ago. Runs under a penalty here and hard to rule out in current heart.
Novak
In good form, looking well treated when second of 9 over C&D 30 days ago and he would have gone close but for missing the break when third of 6 in a handicap at Hamilton over 6f last time. Twice a winner at this track and looks one to take seriously back up to 7f.
Imperial Guard (IRE)
Yet to win a handicap and tumbled a long way in the weights as a result but little promise to be taken from either start this year, including in first-time visor last time (now discarded). Steps back up to 7f with plenty to prove.
Defence Missile (IRE)
Never won from 11 runs and finished tamely when last seen in August. Easily passed over on return from 314 days off.
