Timeform View

A typically competitive renewal of a contest with a long tradition. Preference is for ALTAREQ, who shaped extremely well on his first couple of starts for new connections and Jim Goldie's 4-y-o can capitalise on this marked drop in grade with Mulrennan taking over in the plate. Canvas looks set for another positive campaign judged on his return, so he heads up the dangers, with Leadenhall, Priapos and Financer just a handful of others worth considering, too.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Timeform Comments

Persuasion (IRE)
Veteran who made good use of a handy position to score at Musselburgh in April. Not in same form at Thirsk next time, but back on track when seventh of 19 at York (7f, good to firm) 11 days ago, doing all that could've been expected. Lurks just 1 lb above his last winning mark.
Lexington Jet (IRE)
Free-going front runner who has improved for application of blinkers this year, landing a fourth success since January when proving too strong for 10 rivals over 7f at Chester (good) last month. Failed to see his race out over a 3f longer trip back there 11 days ago and drops back in distance.
Billyb (FR)
Big-field winner over 1m at York last summer and signed off 2025 in the perfect fashion at Southwell. More miss than hit this season, thirteenth of 16 at former course (9f, good to firm) 11 days ago.
Altareq
Lightly-raced sort from a good family who caught the eye on first 2 starts for new yard, latterly finishing with running left in a tactical affair at Hamilton earlier in the month. Ran too badly to be true at York since and drops markedly in grade here with Mulrennan taking over. Big player.
Priapos (IRE)
Improved on all-weather at the end of 2025, scoring twice at Newcastle and close second at Southwell in December. Gained a first win on turf since his debut when landing 10-runner event over C&D (good) last month and should go well again in reapplied cheekpieces.
Canvas
Three-time winner in 2025, scoring twice at Doncaster before successful at York (1m) in September. Fared best of those on race on his side of the track when fourth of 12 at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) just under 6 weeks ago and he makes plenty of appeal.
Glenfinnan (IRE)
Headstrong sort who found a well-run race panning out ideally for him as he cashed in on a reduced mark in an 11-runner event at Beverley (7.4f) last month. Probably remained in form when ninth of 19 at York (7f) 11 days ago and no surprise to see headgear reapplied.
Vixey
Likeable mare who won 4 times in 2025, including on tapeta. Easy to back and found run of good form coming to a halt back on all-weather at Chelmsford (7f) when last seen 7 months ago so will need to hit the ground running returned to turf.
Naples (IRE)
Signed off time in Ireland with victory in a 15-runner maiden at Listowel in September. Yet to fully fire in 3 handicap outings this season, though wasn't without promise when third behind a pair of improvers at Chepstow last month. Back down in trip and first-time cheekpieces applied.
Degale
Has just a 2024 novice win to his name but he's still low mileage and took a step back in the right direction when third at Nottingham last month. Below that level on both subsequent starts, a bit too keen for his own good back at 7f at Thirsk most recently.
Enola Grey (IRE)
Likeable mare who found the race panning out ideally when landing a 9-runner event at Wolverhampton (7.1f) in December. Ran as well as could've been expected when sixth of 11 at Lingfield (7f) in February and hasn't been seen since.
Swift Salian (IRE)
Back-to-back winner around this time last year and has proved as good as ever this season with 3 runner-up finishes, again no sign of him doing anything untoward in 9-runner event at Nottingham (8.3f, soft) earlier in the month.
Leadenhall
Seemingly as good as ever this year, capitalising on reduced mark at Nottingham in May. Posted a good sixth in a stronger contest at York (9f) next time and quickly regained the winning thread at former course (8.3f, good) last Saturday. Fancied to be in the mix going unpenalised.
Rajapour (IRE)
On a losing run but knocking on the door again, shaped as if still in good form when sixth of 7 at Wetherby (1m, good to firm) last week, the gaps not really materialising when first asked for his effort. One to consider.
Mr Lincoln
Had some quite useful Flat form in Ireland and made it 4 creditable efforts on the spin across both codes when second of 10 at Ayr (1¼m, soft) 5 days ago, albeit no match for winner. Drops back in trip.
Financer
Three-time winner in 2024 who made the frame on several occasions last season, including when second over 1¼m at this venue. Needs things to fall right given run style and again ran creditably when fifth of 16 at York (9f, good to firm) 11 days ago. First-time blinkers now reached for.
Be Frank
Ran a few good races after his successful return at Newmarket last season but wasn't seen to best effect after 9 months off when sixth of 11 at Chester (7f, soft) recently. This run should be more revealing.
