Timeform View

SHAMALZA was perhaps unsuited by the vastly different conditions disappointing at the Curragh in November and retains obvious potential based on her debut success having transferred to another powerful stable for €190,000. She can get her career back on track, with Areti and newcomer Woheela heading up the opposition.

Timeform Comments

Shamalza (IRE)
Lope De Vega filly from a good Aga Khan family. Made a winning debut over 1m at Navan in September but trailed home last of 6 faced with contrasting conditions in a minor event at the Curragh (7f, heavy) in November. Remains with plenty of potential having left D. K. Weld for €190,000.
Afraj (IRE)
Iffraaj filly who made a winning start in 13-runner all-weather maiden at Chelmsford City (7f, 13/2) in November. That was only an ordinary race though, and she was too free under a penalty at Goodwood 6 months later.
Areti
Consistent rather than progressive maiden who shaped as if better for the run in a first-time tongue strap (after 5 months off) when fifth of 13 in 7f Salisbury novice (heavy) 16 days ago. Likely to be back to form here.
Esdaile
Showed only a bit more than on debut when sixth of 8 in maiden at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) last week. Needs this for a handicap mark.
Siddal
Left previous efforts well behind when second of 13 in novice (400/1) at Salisbury (7f, heavy) 16 days ago, running on. Remains to be seen if she's able to back that up now returning to less testing conditions.
Vanilla Skies
Pinatubo filly. Closely related to useful 6f-7f winner Cold Front and half-sister to 3 winners, including 6f-7f winner Brewing and 6f winner Showering. From a useful family the yard knows well but it's a little off-putting blinkers are fitted for debut.
Woheela (IRE)
150,000 gns yearling, Lope De Vega filly. Sister to 7f winner Rajala and half-sister to Italian 7f/1m winner Vento d'Estate. Wears tongue strap for belated debut but Oisin Murphy is a positive jockey booking.
