Timeform View

A good quality handicap. SILVER GHOST stepped up on her reappearance run and looked unlucky not to collect having conceded first run when finishing a neck second behind Superposition on the Rowley Mile course 6 weeks ago. Emma Lavelle's filly is compiling a very solid record here and can confirm the promise of that run. Mudbir was gelded following his Ascot reappearance and can do better as a 4-y-o, with Aalto, I Still Have Faith and Superposition completing the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Northern Express (IRE)
Last success came in the International Stakes at Ascot in 2024 but typically acquitted himself with plenty of credit in big field handicaps during 2025. Operating a shade below best in trio of starts in Bahrain earlier this year and this first run for 4 months may bring him on.
Mudbir
Made good progress last year, winning 3 times, including at Glorious Goodwood over 7f. Well backed but finished down the field in Victoria Cup at Ascot last month (not knocked about). Gelded since and could yet be more to come from him in 2026 (from family who progress with age).
Hawksbill
Useful gelding who is winless since his 2-y-o days but did manage to finish runner up on 4 occasions last season. Exploits proved mixed for new yard at Meydan earlier this year (out of depth final start) and others make greater appeal back on these shores.
Superposition
Has looked a hard ride and despite again showing quirks, proved how much talent he does have when on song when ending a losing run by neck from Silver Ghost on the Rowley Mile (7f) 6 weeks ago. 3 lb rise can see him remain competitive again.
Silver Ghost (IRE)
Much improved when landing back-to-back 7f handicaps last spring and has returned as good as ever, building on her reappearance third and looking unlucky not to prevail when finishing a neck second behind Superposition here 6 weeks ago. Well worth considering.
Dark Tornado (IRE)
Two 7f wins for Denis Quinn last spring and he bettered opening efforts for new yard equipped with a visor when eighth in a 1m handicap here 6 days ago, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests in the process. Not without each way claims on that evidence.
Darkness (FR)
Swept through from off a strong pace to score at Goodwood (7f) in August. Finished no better than midfield in handful of starts so far this season but the handicapper is slowly relinquishing his grip and visor quickly refitted ahead of this.
Nostrum
Smart earlier in his career but struggled for David O'Meara in 2025. However, there have been much more encouraging signs for new yard this year, doing a shade too much in front when fifth of 15 in handicap at Newbury (7f) 2 weeks ago. Not discounted now equipped with cheekpieces.
Philanthropist
Narrowly got the better of a next-time-out winner in first-time cheekpieces at Yarmouth (7f) in April and he ran well from a 3 lb higher when third at Goodwood 24 days ago. Leaves the impression he needs to pull out more if he's to defy present mark, though.
Aalto (FR)
Went close to landing a second successive C&D Bunbury Cup last summer but largely struggled later in 2025. Mark eased as a result and clearly better than the bare result in big field handicap at York (7f) 12 days ago, badly hampered over 1f out. Clearly well treated if putting it all together.
I Still Have Faith
Course winner who comes here on a losing run but is still getting better aged 6 and he twice shaped much better than bare result on Rowley Mile course in May. Typically keen when below best at Newbury 2 weeks ago but no surprise to see him bounce back.
