Timeform View

BASED got off the mark in impressive fashion at Wolverhampton last time (recorded a strong sectional) and looks capable of defying a 6 lb rise. Surgeon Commander and Popty Ping can fight out minor honours.

Timeform Comments

Wise Crack (IRE)
Yet to make an impact in 3 starts for this yard but his standout effort at 2 yrs came on his sole run on the all-weather (third in Lingfield novice) so he's not one to write off yet switched to tapeta.
Fanjove (IRE)
In fine form last year and ran well on reappearance at Southwell (6f). Gone backwards next 2 starts, though, and headgear now applied.
Strong Voice (IRE)
Looked in need of the experience when in the frame in a pair of 7f novices at Southwell in October (well backed on debut) but offered little after 5 months off at Yarmouth in April. Positive jockey booking for this handicap debut having had a breathing operation.
Saxon Prince
Maiden whose 5 outings for Clive Cox came on the all-weather, shaping well when narrowly denied at Kempton in March. Subsequently sold for 24,000 gns but made a low-key start for this yard on turf debut at Ripon following month.
Elemma (IRE)
Starman filly who showed a bit more with each start in novices/maiden, which offers some encouragement for this handicap/all-weather debut.
Smartanck (IRE)
Winner at Wolverhampton for Richard Hughes last summer. Bounced back to score for present yard here (1m, 50/1) in March but tailed off switched to turf next 2 starts. No surprise if he bounced back returned to this surface but still risky all the same.
Bird Of War (IRE)
Stepped up in handicaps during the autumn, channelling his energy more efficiently when running out a comfortable winner here (1m) in November. However, failed to make an impact both starts this term.
Rousham
Not an easy ride but showed much improved form when making a winning handicap debut at Redcar last month. However, found temperament getting the better of him once again at Doncaster 11 days ago.
Henriette Ronner
Responded well to headgear when off the mark here (6f) in January on final start for William Haggas but has struggled since.
Secretinthesky (IRE)
Hinted at ability in maidens but big improvement required if she's to defy this opening mark.
Popty Ping
Both wins at Southwell with most recent success in March. Mixed record since but was better than bare result at Doncaster latest.
Based (IRE)
Improved when second on handicap debut at Wolverhampton on return and quickly resumed progress when off the mark there last time, doing well to pick up the better placed favourite. Remains of firm interest.
Maynora
Finally off the mark at Pontefract (6f) in April and decent efforts in defeat next 2 starts. Return to 7f/all weather no problem.
Surgeon Commander (IRE)
Won twice over C&D during the winter and back to best when fourth of 15 at Doncaster 11 days ago. Respected.
