Timeform View

PER CONTRA seems particularly effective on the all-weather and his last 2 starts on turf suggests he ready to strike. Whitcombe Rockstar remains of interest back on this surface with his Rosebery form working out well, while the progressive Eternal Force is sure to prove popular again after his near-miss at Hamilton.

Timeform Comments

Eternal Force
Won 3 on the bounce last year including handicaps at Newbury (strong form) and Haydock. Failed to meet expectations in the Lincoln at Doncaster on return but only just failed to resume winning ways at Hamilton 3 weeks ago. Switches from turf for the first time (dam won on the all-weather).
Will Scarlet
Very much had the run of the race in first-time headgear when making all in handicap at Meydan (1½m, good) in March. Dropped out rather tamely back on these shores at York 2 months later.
Haku (IRE)
Proved better than ever last year, recording his third win of the campaign at Southwell in November. Off since a below par run at Kempton in January and this 7-y-o is entitled to need this.
Whitcombe Rockstar
Well held back on turf last time but he's much better on all-weather and was in top form earlier this year, winning twice at Kempton in March before excellent second in Rosebery there (strong form). Expected to bounce back.
Rogue Millions
Impressive when successful on handicap bow at Carlisle a year ago for James Owen. Hasn't kicked on in a handful of starts since but he's had excuses and it shouldn't be too long before current yard gets the best out of him.
King's Code
Enhanced his decent strike rate on the all-weather over C&D in January off 3 lb higher but he arrives here on the back of 3 poor efforts (failed to beat a single rival).
Jolly Jack Tar
Took another step forward when making a winning handicap debut at Chelmsford on return a year ago. Not seen since well held at Goodwood following month but interesting that top connections persevere.
The Glen Rovers
Fine servant who was back to his best when causing a minor surprise to win the Easter Classic over C&D on Good Friday. Far from disgraced back on turf since and remains of interest back on this surface.
Rainbow Nebula (FR)
Narrow winner here (1m) on final 3-y-o start and resumed winning ways at Redcar on second start this season. Decent efforts in defeat both starts since, left with a lot to do at York 2 weeks ago. Headgear left off this time.
Cloth Of Gold (IRE)
Left behind his handicap debut/reappearance when off the mark over C&D in October. Shaped as if needing his return at York 2 weeks ago but he's seemingly hard to train.
Wanderlust (FR)
Ended his time for Andre Fabre with victory in 10.5f Angers maiden in September. Respectable start for this yard at Chester/Newbury but more needed in this stronger event.
Per Contra (IRE)
C&D winner off a similar mark last season and arrives on the back of decent placed efforts at Carlisle (shaped well behind a subsequent Royal Ascot winner) and York. Lots to like.
