Timeform View

PEARL EYE has thrived since joining his current yard, winning at Hamilton 23 days ago before a solid third of 16 here a fortnight ago, and is taken to resume winning ways. Spirit Catcher had been in good form prior to a latest effort that is best excused and rates the chief threat, while No Knee Never also merits respect.

Timeform Comments

Hengest
Completed a quick-fire hat-trick in 4-runner handicap at Yarmouth (1¼m, good to firm) last month, but found life tougher upped in grade and faced with much softer conditions at Epsom last time. First-time cheekpieces applied as he reverts to calmer waters.
Machete (FR)
In good form on the all-weather over the winter, winning once and placed several times. Not quite so good on last 2 starts, with the switch to more patient tactics not paying off on latest. This represents a drop in grade and back off last winning mark but hasn't raced on turf since 2025 return.
Midnight Strike (IRE)
Useful at his peak in Ireland but no promise in 3 handicaps for new connections this season. Upped significantly in trip here.
Double Parked (IRE)
Front runner who won 3 times at Redcar last season and should have added another when head third of 11 to City of Poets there last time, hanging badly right 1f out. That said, he didn't appear to stay when well held over this C&D last month.
Ben Lawers
Narrowly landed the odds in a Dundalk maiden (1m) in February but hasn't kicked on in handicaps since, often racing too freely and/or starting slowly. Sold for 5,000gns since last seen and probably best watched on debut for new connections.
Spirit Genie (IRE)
Failed to strike in 2025 but well treated as a result and has had excuses on both outings this year, shaping better than the bare result when seventh in a competitive 7f handicap here on return. He's stepping very much into unchartered territory at this trip, though. Visor back on.
Pearl Eye
Has made a positive start for Jim Goldie, winning at Hamilton and in frame all 3 other outings this year, including when ¾-length third of 16 to Point Of Contact in handicap at this course on latest. Step back up in trip shouldn't be an issue and looks set to make another bold bid.
Glistening Nights (FR)
Got firmly back on track with a couple of placed efforts at Ripon this year but failed to see his race out over C&D last time. Needs to bounce back from that performance to feature.
Urban Road
Placed twice since returning to the turf of late but not quite so good on last 2 starts, including when refusing to settle in refitted blinkers at this course last time. Headgear now removed.
Caph Star
Gained first turf success at Nottingham in April and got back on track from poor effort when 4 lengths fifth of 10 at same course last time. Handicapper seems in control at present, however.
No Knee Never (IRE)
Is being kept busy in 2026, already winning 3 times on the all-weather. Has largely been holding his form on turf of late but ran a strange race upped to around 1½m at this course last time, Cheekpieces back on but still 5 lb above last winning mark.
Theme Park
Twelve runs since last win in 2024 and significantly below form on last 2 starts to end last year. Has something to prove, not least his stamina for this sort of trip on seasonal bow.
Spirit Catcher (IRE)
Landed a gamble over 9f at Musselburgh in April and ran at least as well when runner-up on next 2 starts. Didn't fire back at an extended 1m at Hamilton last time but will be suited by the return to this trip and remains one to view positively on his previous efforts.
Sisterandbrother
Second 1½m turf win since joining Joey Ramsden when seeing off 5 rivals at Beverley in May. Shaped as if still in good form when fifth under a penalty just 2 days later, not ideally placed. Should give his running but this represents a step up in grade.
