Timeform View

CIRCUS OF ROME was a convincing winner of a warm race over 1½m on his previous visit here and appears to have been campaigned this year very much with this race in mind. Ride The Thunder has some strong form and is second choice. Team Player won't need to derive much of an extra edge from first-time cheekpieces to be a threat to all. Irish raider Tribal Star has run well on previous visits to Newcastle, including fourth in this last year, but the outside stall seldom makes life easy in this.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Team Player has traded at more than 2 times Betfair SP twice when winning during its last 5 starts: Tribal Star traded at 25% or less of Betfair SP twice and 50% or less of Betfair SP on 3 of its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Prydwen (IRE)
Second over C&D on Good Friday before notching an eleventh career win over a shorter-than-ideal trip at Ripon (1½m) in April. Not disgraced in a German Group 2 at Hoppegarten (2m) since but no easy task from top weight in an ultra-competitive handicap.
Tashkhan (IRE)
Really smart on the Flat in his prime but no win in this sphere since 2023. Was successful in a maiden hurdle over the winter but others are more persuasive back on the level.
Circus Of Rome
Made good progress in 2025, including a comfortable win over 1½m here. Caught the eye from a poor position on 1½m Goodwood return and can have a line put through his subsequent run over an inadequate 1m at Sandown. Significantly up in trip (stays 1¾m). Looks to have been laid out for this.
Align The Stars (IRE)
Made a successful return in Queen's Prize at Kempton (2m) in March and backed it up with a very good second of 12 in handicap at Newmarket (1¾m) in May. Latest Goodwood sixth no more than respectable but he's capable of bouncing back.
Spirit Mixer
Second to Trueshan in this in 2022 and went one better when edging out Dancing In Paris last year. Has shown he's still capable of useful form in his 3 outings this season but he's 6 lb higher than 12 months ago.
Bahadur
Landed a hat-trick on the all-weather at the end of last year and added to his tally in a small field at Goodwood last month on his first attempt at 2m. Respectable tenth of 20 in Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot (2½m, good to firm) 11 days ago. The booking of William Buick catches the eye.
Dancing In Paris (FR)
Acquitted himself well without winning in staying handicaps last year, including second to Spirit Mixer in this. Well-beaten ninth of 13 to Too Soon in handicap at Epsom (1½m, soft, 40/1) on reappearance 21 days ago but the outing should have helped to put him spot on for this.
Team Player
Started out for Ewan Whillans with a C&D win before following up in a well-contested event over 1¾m at Musselburgh over Easter. Fared best of those from off the pace when fifth of 15 in Chester Cup latest. Went in snatches there and now has first-time cheekpieces added to tongue tie. Player.
Blazeon Five
Followed up Ascot/Nottingham wins with a career-best success to land the hat-trick at Southwell (2m) in December. Creditable second of 6 at Newbury (2m) last time but might prove vulnerable off the same mark in this much stronger race.
Elysian Flame
Confirmed he retains plenty of ability when making winning return at Beverley (2m) in April. Below par over 13f at Hamilton next time but bounced back when fourth of 13 at Thirsk (2m) 4 weeks ago. His previous all-weather start was as a 2-y-o way back in 2018. Cheekpieces back on.
Asgard's Captain (IRE)
Back to winning ways over 1½m at Newmarket (good to firm) in May. Respectable fourth of 13 in handicap at Epsom (1½m, soft) 21 days ago. Course winner but his stamina is a question mark having finished well held in this race last year on his previous attempt at 2m.
Saint Etienne
Useful form in France in 2025, winning twice. Subsequently changed hands for €100,000 and best effort for his current yard when fourth of 10 in handicap at York (1½m) in May. Never figured back at 1¼m at Redcar latest and significantly longer trip is an unknown but his trainer targets this race.
Synergism (GER)
Enjoyed a fine 2025 when a four-time winner at up to 2m and returned with a hard-fought success over 1¾m at Lingfield (good) 32 days ago. Not obviously well treated under a 5 lb penalty but no shock were he to pull out more.
Tribal Star (IRE)
Fourth in this last year and reached the frame in another top staying handicap when third of 17 in last month's Chester Cup. Turned in a rare poor effort at the Curragh last time. Not the type to stay down for long but the outside stall is hard to overcome in this race.
Ride The Thunder (IRE)
Has made steady progress in his career, chasing home Valiancy (Circus of Rome fourth) in warm 1¾m 3-y-o handicap at Haydock on final start last year. Returned with good third of 12 to the same rival at Hamilton (13f, good to firm) 41 days ago. Up in trip for all-weather debut. Interesting runner.
Moon Over Miami (FR)
Useful 3-time winner who turned in his best effort of the season (without looking like a winner in waiting) when fourth over 1¾m at Goodwood 5 weeks ago. Has a tricky outside stall.
Aqwaam
Won over 2m at Lingfield on All-Weather Finals' Day in 2024 and ran a stormer when third in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket (2¼m, soft) on his final start of that year. Off 19 months, shaped as if retaining ability when ninth of 13 over 1½m at Kempton on return 31 days ago.
Zanndabad (IRE)
Looked unlucky not to go very close when fourth at last year's York Ebor meeting and scored twice over hurdles in the autumn. Never involved in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree and the Chester Cup (caught too far back) this spring but capable off this mark if things go right. Draw not ideal.
Gentleman Joe
Quite useful on the Flat and over hurdles for Henry de Bromhead in Ireland but has struggled under both codes since joining current yard. Has first-time cheekpieces added to his regular tongue tie.
Kirchner (IRE)
Fairly useful for Jean-Claude Rouget in France and creditable efforts in 1½m handicaps at Ascot and Kempton since joining the excellent James Owen yard. Steps up significantly in trip and remains one who could have a bigger performance in him for this stable.
