Timeform View

Cases can be made for plenty but the most persuasive is for SURE AND STEDFAST, who has been shaping up well this season and Ewan Whillans' 4-y-o can go one better than his recent Hamilton second. Heading up the threats is Big Win, who built on the promise of his seasonal/stable debut effort to open his account at Chepstow 3 weeks ago and should have more to offer. Jujubella and It's Only Fun complete the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Sure And Stedfast (IRE)
Shaping up well this season and weas back to his best when second of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (13f, good) just over 3 weeks ago, possibly finding himself in front a bit soon. Nudged up 1 lb for that and he looks ready to add to his tally.
Natzor (FR)
More miss than hit for current connections, ninth of 12 at this course (1¼m) 8 weeks ago. Easy enough to look elsewhere.
Arth's Gold
Belatedly off the mark when easily taking 10-runner event at Southwell (1½m) in April. Backed that up with a creditable third there the following month but bit below that level when sixth of 12 at Wolverhampton (1½m) since. Seemingly in the grip of the assessor now.
Romantic Spirit (FR)
4-time winner last season but yet to scale those heights in a handful of starts this year. Heads back up in distance and worth keeping an eye on having dropped below her last winning mark.
Big Win (FR)
Low-mileage sort who built on promise of seasonal/stable debut effort to open his account in 9-runner handicap at Chepstow (1½m, soft) 3 weeks ago. 5 lb rise shouldn't be insurmountable and could have more to offer for new connections now that he's up and running.
Jujubella (IRE)
Progressive when winning 4 times early last season. Yet to get her head in front this time around but got closer than previously in refitted cheekpieces when third of 4 in handicap at Hamilton (11f) on Thursday. Not out of things.
Golspie (IRE)
Free-going sort arrives after 7 in-frame efforts on the bounce, including when fourth of 8 at Chester (12.3f, good to soft) a fortnight ago, nearest finish. In the mix again returned to all-weather.
Skinny Malinka (IRE)
Fair maiden for Ed Bethell in 2024 but showed nothing on stable/hurdling debut later that year and it was the same fate returned to the Flat at Carlisle recently.
Free World
Ran to a fair level on 2 of his 3 starts in Meydan but no impact in both outings for his new yard after 16 months off recently. Handicapper drops him another chunk but needs to show plenty more before becoming of interest.
Cavalry Call (IRE)
Fairly useful handicapper at best for the Crisfords. However, struggled for form under both codes for R. Mike Smith and showed nothing on debut for new connections at Doncaster (1½m, good) 6 weeks ago.
It's Only Fun (IRE)
Capitalised on a reduced mark for new stable in 8-runner event at Southwell (11f) last month and backed that up when second of 6 at Doncaster (1½m, firm) recently, likely to have given the winner more to do if finding his stride sooner. Solid each-way claims.
Elemental Eye
Won at Redcar (2m) and Musselburgh last summer. In and out under both codes since but failed to come on for his Ripon run when third of 5 at Musselburgh (2m, good to firm) just over 3 weeks ago. Heads back up in trip and considered with first-time blinkers applied.
Character Testing
Bounced back to form when runner-up at Cartmel last month but well below that level when fourth of 10 at Hexham (2m, good) a fortnight ago. Cheekpieces back on for his Flat return but others more appealing.
Billy Bathgate
The last of his 4 wins in 2025 came over 2m at Wolverhampton in December. Plenty of creditable efforts in a busy spell since, including when fourth of 10 back there (1¾m) when last seen 3 months ago. Likely to be sharper for this outing.
