Timeform View

SIMBA'S PRIDE was turned over at odds-on here last time but his previous form reads well enough to think he's worth perservering with, especially back at this trip. Recent Redcar winner Hares Bredth and the in-form Go Lockers Go are also considered.

Timeform Comments

Showtown (IRE)
Back to form returned to this trip when coming from off the pace to finish fourth at Haydock (soft) on his penultimate outing. Met trouble when fifth over this C&D early last month and he holds place claims from handy high draw.
Saucy Jane
Highly tried after winning her maiden but is down to a workable mark now and responded well to this headgear when second at Pontefract at the start of June. Perhaps found softer conditions against her at Chester 10 days later.
Go Lockers Go
Much improved after 5 months off when opening account in 6f handicap at Chelmsford in March and followed up with something to spare at Yarmouth (5f) next time. Has found only one too good on each of his last 2 outings and should be in the mix again.
Houndhill
Showed improved form dropped in grade and fitted with a first-time visor when off the mark in 12-runner handicap at Newcastle (5f) in May, though didn't really get the chance to back that up having met early trouble at York 3 weeks ago. Still to prove he's fully effective on turf, though.
Concert
Fair 6f winner for William Haggas last year and got back on track on his third outing for this yard when third of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 43 days ago. Can give a good account, though stall 1 isn't ideal.
Liverpool Star (IRE)
Showed improved form when off the mark in 10-runner handicap at Ripon (6f, good) in April, showing a likeable attitude. Ran at least as well in defeat from a 3 lb higher mark at Hamilton next time but bit underwhelming dropped to 5f at Pontefract since. Headgear worn there is now discarded.
Simba's Pride
Doubled his tally at Ripon (6f) in May and fared best of those ridden on the near side when fifth in a stronger race at York (5f) next time. Failed to justify odds-on favouritism when fourth of 7 over 5f here 2 weeks ago but step back up to 6f should suit and he's worth giving another chance to.
King's Road Dandy (IRE)
Placed at Pontefract on sole outing at 2 yrs and ran to a similar level when fifth at Doncaster on return. Didn't step forward from that when last of 8 in a Pontrefract maiden 40 days ago, and opening mark demands improvement.
Celtic Arrow (FR)
A €22,000 purchase who made the placings in a trio of Newcastle maidens (5f on latest) in February/March. Step back up to 6f should suit on handicap/turf debut but has 112-day absence to overcome.
Masai Angel (FR)
Distant fifth on Hamilton debut last June but showed a lot more when fourth of 9 at Newcastle 10 months later, despite still looking green. Matched that form when third of 5 in maiden at Ripon (6f, good to firm) 14 days ago. Opening mark looks workable.
Country Artiste (IRE)
Hasn't come close to matching 2-y-o form for Clive Cox in 3 outings for this yard, though might've needed the run after 4 months off when 13¾ lengths tenth of 11 to Simba's Pride in handicap (28/1) at Ripon (6f, good) 34 days ago.
Hares Bredth
Better than ever when opening his account in 10-runner handicap at Redcar (6f, good, 15/8) 11 days ago, travelling fluently on the far-side rail and well on top at the finish. 5 lb rise looks fair and he's likely to be in the mix.
