ROUSING ENCORE was on the wrong side of the track at York but his previous solid efforts in big-field handicaps make him a really interesting proposition handily-drawn from this mark. Manila Scouse and Daizen head the dangers, with Parisiac and handicap newcomer Tip Foster also shortlisted in a typically competitive race.

Timeform Comments

Territorial Knight
Plenty of good efforts last season, scoring at Doncaster prior to signing off with a good fifth in the Bronze Cup here. Sound fifth in a 19-runner race at Doncaster on return and perhaps had conditions a shade quicker than ideal when fourth of 6 there last time. Perhaps drawn higher than ideal.
Gweedore
Five-time winner here signed off last season by winning over 7f at Musselburgh but yet to fully fire this campaign, so others are preferred despite handy mark. Engaged 5.00 Ayr Sunday.
Woven
Veteran who took advantage of drop in grade when successful at C&D in October. Caught the eye when fourth on return at Doncaster and was the first home in his group when runner-up in a 21-runner York handicap last month. Cheekpieces go back on but high draw is a negative.
Jordan Electrics
Proved a revelation in 2024, winning 7 times. Good sixth of 28 in Victoria Cup at Ascot in May but no excuses when a below-par fourth of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, good) 19 days ago and his losing run is mounting up.
Rousing Encore (IRE)
C&D winner who doubled his tally for 2025 over C&D in September and has looked as good as ever in defeat this year, again better than he could show when fourth at Carlisle (6f) on his penultimate start. On the wrong side of the track at York last time and he's a player with a better draw here.
Misunderstood (FR)
Smart form at best in France, winning 2 of his 3 starts as a 2-y-o, including a Group 3. Lost his way during 2025 and has shaped as if building up to something in 3 starts for curreny connections, not knocked about when sixth of 13 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, firm, 28/1) 31 days ago.
Lord Bertie (FR)
Not straightforward but found things panning out ideally when opening his account for present yard over at Doncaster (heavy) in October. Back below last winning mark and shaped as if back in some form when eleventh of 20 in handicap at York (7f, good) 24 days ago, but others still make more appeal.
Parisiac (IRE)
Three-time winner at 5f in 2025 who resumed with success at Hamilton at the beginning of last month and found only one too good both starts since, latterly at C&D 16 days ago. This looks a tougher assignment but he's evidently thriving on a busy spell.
Manila Scouse
Cashed in off much-reduced mark at Thirsk (6f) last summer and he comes here in good form, going close at both Hamilton and Thirsk in May. Shaped as if still in form having met some trouble when sixth of 21 in handicap at York (6f, good to firm, 5/1) 23 days ago and he holds claims again.
Prince Of Pillo (IRE)
Runner-up in a Southwell seller on his final outing last year and wasn't seen to best effect in 2 further all-weather outings early this year. Shaped as if needing the outing after 5 months off when eighth of 14 in handicap at this C&D (good to soft) 16 days ago but draw is a concern.
Dakota Gold
Admirable veteran who couldn't emulate last season's seasonal reappearance success when trailing the field at York in May, and he's at least entitled to come on for that run.
Here Forever
Progressive juvenile who was sold for 52,000 guineas on the back of a facile victory at Ripon (6f) on final start for George Boughey. Hasn't looked particularly well suited by a drop to 5f on his last 2 outings and he's worth a betting check stepped back up in trip.
The Caltonian
Gained a fourth C&D win when scoring over 6f at Newcastle in January and produced his best effort since when fifth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 100/1) 9 days ago. Probably playing for minor honours again though, with yard still struggling for winners.
Cotai Lights (IRE)
All-weather novice winner last year. Produced his best effort this season in first-time cheekpieces when fourth of 11 in handicap at Newmarket (7f, good to firm) at the start of May but not in the same form back at 6f at Hamilton last time.
Dandy Magic (IRE)
Course winner. Produced a couple of good placed efforts at Newcastle earlier in the year but well held here at the end of February and was never involved on return from a 4-month break at C&D 16 days ago. Could be sharper now but high draw is a negative.
Tip Foster
Promise when third of 9 in novice at Pontefract (6f) on debut and built on that when winning a 10-runner maiden at Thirsk (7f, good, 9/2) 31 days ago, showing a willing attitude to wrestle back the advantage late. This is a hot race to make his handicap bow but he's open to improvement.
Daizen (IRE)
Ended his 2-y-o season in good style with success in a C&D maiden and has worked his way back to form this season, proving better than ever when winning a 13-runner handicap at Thirsk (6f, good, 6/1) 31 days ago, impressing with how quickly he put lengths between himself and his opposition.
Kelpie Grey
Winless since completing a hat-trick in spring 2024 but his mark has dropped significantly as a result and he caught the eye when a never-nearer sixth of 14 in handicap (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 16 days ago (rider suspended for 14 days after). Has highest draw to deal with here, though.
