Timeform View

WINE DARK SEA is improving in leaps and bounds and shouldn't be inconvenienced by this step up in trip, so could prove very hard to beat as he bids for the hat-trick. Valedictory is unexposed and can pose the chief threat, whilst last year's winner Oneforthegutter can't be ruled out from a reduced mark.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Wine Dark Sea traded at a high of 1.78 and Betfair SP of 2.08 when winning last time, a race in which it raced prominently and travelled strongly early on.

Timeform Comments

Roaring Legend (FR)
Made a positive start for Olly Murphy when twice runner-up in 2m all-weather handicaps at Lingfield in February. Reportedly made a respiratory noise at Musselburgh next time though and again struggled despite another breathing operation at York last time, so has a bit to prove at present.
Beylerbeyi
Consistent sort who landed the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October. Made the podium in 4 all-weather handicaps at the start of this year and had a hopeless task under usual hold-up tactics at Epsom before running respectably enough in the Ascot Stakes (2½m) 3 weeks ago. Drop in trip should suit.
Real Dream (IRE)
A while since he's scored but he's generally a consistent performer in turf handicaps, including when fifth in the Ebor last season. Not on a going day when down the field at Royal Ascot but he is becoming well handicapped if he can recapture his best form.
Valedictory
Lightly-raced son of Cracksman got off the mark at Chelmsford in October and looked as if he was ready to make up for lost time when winning a 7-runner handicap (11/4) at Goodwood (1¾m, good to firm) 48 days ago with a bit in hand. Up 5 lb but he's still unexposed and should go well again.
Asgard's Captain (IRE)
Back to winning ways over 1½m at Newmarket (good to firm) in May before making the frame in an Epsom handicap for the third yard running a couple of weeks later. Unsuited by the step up in trip when mid-field in the Northumberland Plate 2 weeks ago, so drop back to this distance should suit.
Goblet Of Fire
Enhanced his impressive strike rate over the longest trip he's tackled on the Flat at Wolverhampton (2m) in October. Underwent a breathing operation during the winter and stepped up on his return when winning 12-runner heritage handicap at Newmarket (1¾m) 68 days ago. 7 lb rise demands more again.
Majestic (IRE)
Won the Cambridgeshire in 2022 and successful in Bahrain last year. Still capable of useful form and was a creditable second of 7 in handicap at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm, 9/1) 13 days ago. Didn't stay on his previous try around this trip.
Wine Dark Sea
Has taken his form up to a useful level since handicapping, winning at Kempton last summer and ending the season with a close second in Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket. Scored readily at Ascot on return last month before following up in a facile fashion at Carlisle. The one to beat under a penalty.
Oneforthegutter
Has a fine record in this race, runner-up in 2024 before landing it from a 4 lb higher mark than his current one last season. Low-key efforts on his first 2 starts this campaign but no surprise if he's much closer to form this time.
Pole Star
Successful 3 times last season but the pick of his form this year is over further and he seemed rather caught out for pace when eleventh of 12 in handicap at Ayr (13f, good to soft) 20 days ago.
