Timeform View

HAFFNER showed plenty when second in an historically strong maiden at the Curragh on debut. This longer trip looks sure to benefit, and he has strong claims to get off the mark. Charlie Appleby won this with a subsequent 1000 Guineas winner on debut 2 years ago and his newcomer Al Wathba commands respect, while the relatively inexpensive Lord Of Winterfell shouldn't be underestimated. Subscription is another very well-bred newcomer to note.

Timeform Comments

Al Wathba (FR)
Foaled February 19. €900,000 yearling, Wootton Bassett colt. Half-brother to 8.3f winner Empirical. Dam, 6f winner, sister to Chartwell Fillies' Stakes winner/Matron Stakes runner-up Lily's Angel. Yard's Desert Flower (subsequent 1000 Guineas winner) took this on debut 2 years ago. Very interesting.
Haffner (USA)
$375,000 yearling Justify colt. Dam, 2-y-o 7f winner, half-sister to Irish St Leger winner Order of St George. Shaped with plenty of encouragement behind better-fancied stablemate on debut at Curragh (6f). Will improve stepping up in trip and looks the one they all have to beat.
Lord Of Winterfell
32,000 gns breeze-up by New Bay. Did by far the best of those held up when eye-catching third (travelled well) on debut at Salisbury (6f, heavy). Clocked some notable closing sectionals that day and would have made even more impact with clear run. Sure to progress and shouldn't be underestimated.
Sioux River (IRE)
Foaled May 3. €120,000 yearling, Sioux Nation colt. Closely related to 7f/1m winner City Runner and half-brother to useful 1¼m-14.4f winner Whatsgoingonmarvin and 2-y-o 7f winner Flying Rock. Dam placed at 7f. Makes some appeal on pedigree and worth noting for support.
Subscription
Foaled April 23. Night of Thunder colt. Brother to 1¼m-11.6f winner Hengest and closely related to useful winner up to 10.4f Agave and useful 1m winner Darn Hot Gallop. Dam, 1½m-15f winner, half-sister to top-class Enable. Longer trips may prove his optimum but hails from a fine Juddmonte family.
Velociraptor
14,500 gns foal, 38,000 gns yearling. Lope Y Fernandez colt. Half-brother to several winners, including smart 10.7f-2m winner Tyson Fury (by Iffraaj) and useful winner up to 7f Eirene (2-y-o 5f/6f winner). Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Has some quality in his pedigree but this looks a hot race.
Walkin On The Moon (IRE)
Foaled March 18. £52,000 yearling, Space Traveller colt. Half-brother to 2 winners, including 2-y-o 5f winner Rikki Tiki Tavi. Dam, third at 7.5f in France, half-sister to smart winner up to 13f Remus de La Tour. Bred to make an impact as a juvenile, but he's pitched into a strong maiden on debut.
