I'LL BE BACK took his tally to 2-2 despite still looking a shade rough around the edges on return at Leicester in April and with that form having worked out extremely well, Karl Burke's 3-y-o is fancied to maintain his unbeaten record sent down the handicap route. This is the weakest race English Oak has contested in a while, so he heads up the opposition, with Rhoscolyn rounding out the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

English Oak
Didn't go on for Ed Walker after landing Buckingham Palace in 2024 but rejuvenated for new yard when winning 2 handicaps at Meydan earlier this year. Unable to get competitive in corresponding former event last month but this the weakest race he's contested for a while.
Rhoscolyn
Landed a sixth Goodwood success in the Golden Mile last summer. Mixed bag thereafter but confirmed he retains all his ability when fifth at Thirsk in April. Not so good there last time but can have his latest Epsom effort overlooked (badly hampered over 2f out). One to consider.
Salam Dubawi
German 1m maiden winner for Andreas Schutz in 2025. Looked a different model when successful on second start for current yard here (9f) in May and has backed that up the last twice, most recently when demoted fifth of 22 in John Smith's Cup at York (1¼m) 5 days ago.
I'll Be Back (IRE)
Unbeaten in 2 starts, winning with a bit in hand at Leicester in April on his return from a 5-month break, despite still looking rough around the edges. He beat King’s Cavalry by a length that day, and with the form having worked out extremely well, he's open to further progress on handicap debut.
Monarch's Gold
Won 6f novices at Kempton and Southwell last autumn. Back on the up with cheekpieces quickly dispensed with when runner-up in 12-runner handicap at Chester in May and can have a line put through his latest Epsom effort (badly hampered on rail over 2f out). Has been gelded since.
Noelan Star (GER)
Bolted up on debut at Newcastle (1m) in December and wasn't hard-pressed to land the odds over 7f at the same track in April. Lost unbeaten record switched to turf at Doncaster (1m) in May and found the Britannia coming too soon in his development last month.
