THE GREAT ESCAPE finished runner-up off 10 lb higher on his handicap bow here (2½m) last summer. He gets the nod in a weak race, with Warner's Cross another likely bounce-back candidate with Sean Bowen aboard for stable debut. Fane Court is the pick of those with more recent form.

Timeform Comments

Final Entry (IRE)
Fair maiden on Flat. Doubled his career/Newton Abbot tally when narrow winner in first-time visor there last month. 4 lb rise harsh, though he's taking on lesser opposition here and his yard continue in good form.
The Great Escape (IRE)
Relatively lightly-raced 6-y-o maiden. Placed all 3 starts here last summer. No immediate revival on return to this track/hurdling following 8 weeks in late-May. Another try over this trip is warranted given his style/pedigree, and he could be worth chancing off 5 lb lower in a weaker handicap.
Ikigai Star (IRE)
Inconsistent since winning at Huntingdon in May last year. Well held on Flat at Nottingham (1¾m, good) latest and again has stamina to prove back over hurdles. Return to this track (hit frame both starts) and booking of David Bass (1-1) both positives, though.
Kantagua Du Large (FR)
One-time fairly useful chaser in France. Well below that level for current connections, adding to her patchy record with a poor effort at Cartmel last time.
Hardy Buck (IRE)
Capitalised on much-reduced mark to open his account on stable debut at Exeter (23f, soft) in December. Probably feeling effects of promising chasing debut when pulled up at Hereford in February. Freshened up and ought to be competitive back in a thin handicap hurdle.
Fane Court (IRE)
Winning pointer. Shown much more than previously in 2 starts for current yard, beaten 7 lengths when third in a slowly-run C&D handicap latest. One of select few with recent form to his name, and he's less exposed than most despite being an 8-y-o.
Warner's Cross (IRE)
Sole success in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in summer 2024. Significant stable switch since final start for Clare Hobson (again well held) in chase at Southwell in mid-May. Reverts to hurdling off much-reduced mark following a short break and could be interesting with Sean Bowen taking over.
