WINDS OF WINTER has been shaping well and can land this race for the second successive year. My Chiquita is feared in her bid for back-to-back C&D victories, while Ladies Day looks a likely improver on handicap debut.

Timeform Comments

My Chiquita
Consistent sort who confirmed the promise of her stable debut third at Aintree (form working out well) when successful in well-run C&D handicap in late-May. This has likely been the target for local yard who excel with her type and she's sure to go close in a race that should again be run to suit.
Saligo Bay (IRE)
Narrowly denied by Winds Of Winter when seeking C&D double in this race 12 months ago. Now much higher in weights following a remarkable 2025 (progress looked to have stalled when last seen in January), and he has 5-month break to overcome.
Percy Shelley
Broke his long losing run with hurdling debut success at Uttoxeter last September and has shaped as though on good mark both handicap hurdle starts (2½m) since. Well-run 17f could suit and arrives following a creditable effort on the level (fairly useful stayer).
Eternal Angel (FR)
All the better for first-time hood when impressively making it 2 wins from 3 for current yard at Uttoxeter (2m, good to soft) 11 days ago. On the up and could have more to offer on first start in a handicap for Tom Lacey.
Secret Force (IRE)
Fairly useful type who went wrong way for Gavin Cromwell following successful hurdling debut at Punchestown last autumn but as good as ever on Flat when successful for current yard last month. Well held in better race at York since, however, and something to find at the weights returned to hurdling.
Ladies Day (IRE)
Runner-up in listed bumper last winter. Off the mark with smooth success in Bangor maiden prior to proving too strong for Eternal Angel at Uttoxeter. She'll need to progress again to make it a hat-trick on handicap bow, but that's entirely possible given her profile.
Norman Fletcher
Fallen long way in weights since latest success in November 2024 but ran well under this jockey when runner-up behind convincing winner at Newton Abbot (17f) latest. He'll need to jump much more fluently on return to better company, though the addition of a first-time visor will probably benefit.
Buddah Castle (IRE)
Won thin race at Sedgefield (2½m) on hurdling debut but failed to progress and got no further than halfway (unseated) on handicap/chasing bow on return at Hexham. Reverts to hurdles and hard to be confident this quirky sort will get back on track under an inexperienced rider.
Winds Of Winter (IRE)
Landed third success of an excellent summer with strong-travelling display in this race 12 months ago before narrowly denied a double under this rider in Cartmel Cup. She's now 4 lb lower than for that outing and has shaped well on both starts since her seasonal reappearance. Leading claims.
Heart Above
Kelso specialist who needed every yard of the trip to capitalise on a drop in grade there (21f) in May. Had hit the frame both starts at this track prior to pulling up here (2¾m) last time. Bit to prove back down in distance.
Well Educated (IRE)
Veteran who went close to snapping long losing run at Hexham before seemingly finding a busy spell catching up with him last month. Still feasibly treated despite being 2 lb out of the handicap, but he isn't one for maximum faith (can be reluctant to start).
