Timeform View

Nobody is better at targeting the big handicaps than Dan Skelton, who no doubt had this race in mind when purchasing KINGSTON NARCISSUS in May. The 7-y-o posted good runner-up efforts for his new yard last month and can resume winning ways. Harry Cobden has been the go to man in this of late and his presence in the saddle on Soul Icon suggests the 2024 runner-up could be primed for another bold bid. Next on the list is Queensbury Boy for a yard with a strong record in this race.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Kingston Narcissus traded at a low of 1.19 and Betfair SP of 3.51 when losing last time, a race in which it raced behind and travelled strongly early on.

Timeform Comments

Mahons Glory (IRE)
Huntingdon winner in March. Career best when adding to his tally in 6-runner C&D handicap (good to firm) 4 weeks ago but up 4 lb in a much stronger race now.
Soul Icon
Second in this in 2024 and also won Grade 2 handicap at Kempton (2m) under Harry Cobden in Christmas of that year. Respectable efforts on both completed starts in a light campaign last season. The return to the saddle of Cobden, who is seeking a fourth successive win in this race, catches the eye.
Riaan (IRE)
Ended 2025 with success at Sligo in October. Respectable fourth of 14 in handicap chase at Punchestown (2½m) on his return at the end of April but has run poorly at Kilbeggan since. Prone to mistakes. First-time blinkers and tongue tie replace regular cheekpieces.
Gunsight Ridge
First run since leaving Olly Murphy when third of 6 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (2½m, good to soft, 25/1) 55 days ago but others are readily preferred in this much deeper contest.
Breizh River (FR)
Gained a third win since joining Tristan Davidson at the start of the year with a battling display at Cartmel (21f, good to soft) 20 days ago. A further 4 lb rise demands more but his stable's continued good form provides hope.
Pour Les Filles
Won at the first time of asking over fences at Ffos Las in January. Struggled on next 3 starts but back on form when third at Cartmel in recent months, latterly to Breizh River 3 weeks ago. Whether he jumps and travels well enough for the demands of a big-field handicap is another matter.
Queensbury Boy (IRE)
Walked over for first chase success at Hereford in May. Followed it with good second of 4 at Uttoxeter (2½m) in May. Made a bad early mistake and did well to get briefly involved in the competitive Summer Cup back there since. First-time cheekpieces join regular tongue tie. Respected.
Baltic Bird
Made a successful chase debut at Down Royal last spring but in and out since. Well beaten on the previous occasion he was fitted with cheekpieces. Others are preferred.
Kingston Narcissus (FR)
Ended his time for Rebecca Menzies with a clear-cut success on chasing debut at Hexham (2½m, good) in May. Has shown ever better form when runner-up on both starts for Dan Skelton and will be winning for this excellent yard soon. Has cheekpieces combined with his tongue tie for the first time.
In The Air (FR)
Added to his good Stratford record with a 17f success last month, making it 4 wins in his last 6 starts over fences. NON RUNNER.
St Faz (FR)
Fairly useful chaser who has notched 4 Flat wins since joining Adrian Keatley. Not discounted back over fences for his shrewd stable.
Stans The Man (IRE)
Returned from 3-month break with success at Wincanton (25f0 in March and has run well in defeat since. May find this test on the sharp side, though. Has had breathing operation.
King Roly
Took well to chasing in first half of last season, winning 3 times. Back on form when 9 lengths second of 7 over C&D (good) 5 weeks but jockey bookings would suggest he's the stable third string.
Nickelforce (IRE)
Proved better than ever when notching a fourth chase success in a 5-runner event at Fakenham (21f, good to firm) in May. Creditable second of 4 at Stratford since (23f, good to firm) but he found less than looked likely.
