Timeform View

In an ultra-competitive event, it could pay to focus on NEWPORT and Talismans Time, who are both relatively unexposed as stayers. Iain Jardine's charge could be on a handy mark based on his recent hurdles form, and he just shades the vote. Trojan Sun is expected to be in the hunt for the places, with Rogue Empire not discounted in his bid for a 4-timer.

Timeform Comments

Talismans Time
Lightly-raced 4-y-o. Completed a Hamilton double in this grade on handicap bow last summer. Amiss both starts either side of a break but back to form/shaped as if ready for further when 2¾ lengths third behind a couple of 3-y-os here (1¾m) last time. High on the shortlist.
Midnight Rumble
In reasonable heart since joining current yard from Alan King but extended long losing run when 2¾ lengths third in a falsely-run handicap at Chester (2m) latest. Needs to prove he can handle a stiffer test here.
Venezuelan (IRE)
Wide-margin winner of a 4-runner Lingfield maiden (11.5f) for Ralph Beckett last summer. Hasn't been seen to best effect since joining current yard for 90,000 gns (without looking easiest of rides), and he isn't fully exposed over staying trips.
Trojan Sun
Successful 4 times in 2025. Capitalised on drop in grade to open his account for season at Carlisle before bouncing right back to his best when third over C&D last time. Bumps into a couple of less exposed rivals this time, but he's expected to give his running again.
Boxing Great (IRE)
Landed a gamble in similar grade at Dundalk in December. Only beaten 4 lengths in the Northumberland Vase at Newcastle last time. Still lightly raced for his age and needs considering with sights lowered.
Rogue Empire
Thriving stayer who completed an all-weather/turf hat-trick in a small-field event at Lingfield (good) last time. Now 2-2 under this good-value apprentice and could make a bold bid for a 4-timer up in class.
Tarbat Ness
Finished 5¼ lengths behind Rogue Empire at Kempton prior to notching his third win of the season in decisive fashion in 6-runner Carlisle handicap. In the form of his life but 5 lb rise may prevent a follow up in better company.
Treasure Islands
Low-mileage 4-y-o stayer who has won handicaps at Ripon/Catterick this season. Ran creditably behind 3 of today's rivals when beaten 6¼ lengths over C&D last time and seemingly had no excuses.
Valley Of Flowers (IRE)
Ended losing run dating back to 2023 when a smooth winner at Carlisle (11f) earlier this month. Now back on same mark as when fourth in this corresponding event 12 months ago. Again gave her running here (hit frame all 4 C&D starts) when fourth behind Furhaan/Trojan Sun last time.
Vaguely Royal (IRE)
Rejuvenated by switch to visor when capitalising on a career-low mark in 6-runner handicap at Chester (14.5f) last time. A 4 lb rise doesn't look prohibitive and chances probably hinge on headgear having a similar effect. Booking of William Buick a plus.
Furhaan
Made a winning handicap debut at Windsor (11.5f) in September for Ed Walker. Beat 3 reopposing when 3¾-length second over C&D last time. That was his best effort for current yard (who do well with this type) and it's still early days in staying handicaps.
Nanny Park
Tricky customer who took advantage of a falling mark in thin 4-runner Doncaster handicap (14.5f) under Billy Loughnane last time. Stamina to prove on first crack at 2m and worth taking on in a much deeper race.
Newport
Well-backed 4 lengths fifth of 8 on first Flat run for nearly 2 years at Hamilton (11f) in May. Shapes as though he could relish this sort of test and looks interesting returning from a good spell over hurdles last month.
Queen Roslyn
Finished ahead of several next-time-out winners when fifth over C&D last autumn. Off the mark over hurdles in the spring before running over inadequate trips since returning to the Flat. Ought to do better back up in trip sporting first-time tongue strap (has had breathing operations).
