COBALT COMET took a step forward to get off the mark at Leicester just over 6 weeks ago and having shown plenty of grit to hold off the runner-up that day, John Mackie's charge is fancied to kick on now up and running. He can get the better of Hatamoto, who has responded well to positive tactics recently and arrives in search of a hat-trick. Thisonesforyou and Back At One round off the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Topathemorning
Encouraging debut sixth in 7f maiden at Newmarket last September but well beaten on both starts over 1m this year. Needs this switch to a handicap to prove transformative.
Sagremor (IRE)
Shaped with promise on turf as a 2-y-o but hasn't kicked on in handicaps this season, a longer trip/first-time hood failing to bring out any improvement at the first attempt when third of 11 in handicap at Haydock (1m, good to soft) a couple of months ago.
Venetian Lion
Some promise on when seventh of 9 in Yarmouth maiden on debut in April but well below that level on both subsequent starts. First-time tongue applied for this handicap bow and surely capable of better for his top handler (has been gelded).
Filly Eilish (IRE)
Showed promise on her first 2 starts when placed in novices here and at Wolverhampton. Had a breathing operation but went like a non-stayer upped to 1¼m on handicap debut at Doncaster early last month. Mark still looks on the stiff side despite the drop back in trip.
Thisonesforyou
Left qualifying form well behind when making a winning handicap debut at Leicester (1m) last October. Showed the benefit of last month's comeback run when third of 13 in handicap at Kempton (1m) just under 3 weeks ago and fancied to progress again back on turf.
Kiani King (IRE)
Bits and pieces of promise on the all-weather in the spring and still looked in need of the experience when sixth of 12 on handicap debut at Haydock (7f, soft) in May, finishing with running left. Off since and ought to do better somewhere down the line (has been gelded).
Mehmas Engine (IRE)
Hasn't built on her promising debut third here (5f) and already in danger of being disappointing in relation to her pedigree/price tag, faring no better in first-time hood on first outing since leaving James Tate (3,400 gns) at Kempton last month. Easy to look elsewhere.
Bosom Pals
Showed a good attitude when making a successful start in nurseries at Thirsk last summer. Ran to a similar level when fourth at Nottingham on return but followed that with a shocker in first-time cheekpieces at Bath (1m) last month, not helped by a tardy start. Headgear quickly discarded.
Back At One (IRE)
Well-connected gelding but little impact in 3 quick-fire runs in May/June. Represents powerful connections and ought to do better now tackling a handicap/upped to 1m.
Cobalt Comet
Showed improved form to get off the mark in 8-runner handicap at Leicester (1m, good) just over 6 weeks ago, getting an easy enough lead but showing plenty of grit to hold off the runner-up's sustained challenge. 5 lb rise demands more but could well kick on now up and running.
Telfy Boy (IRE)
Showed improved form on nursery debut (final start for Michael Keady) when runner-up at Kempton in October. Proved to be a disappointment in reapplied cheekpieces when mid-field at Chelmsford (1¼m) 13 days later and has moved yards again ahead of this return.
Alkaios
Head-strong sort who has finished down the field all 3 outings. Allotted a lowly mark as a result for this handicap bow but very hard to recommend.
Hatamoto
Built on Ripon second when seeing off 6 rivals at Beverley earlier in the month and scraped home sporting first-time cheekpieces following a 2 lb rise at Thirsk (1m, good to firm) 13 days later, his rider taking things a little easy late on. 2 lb nudge unlikely to prove insurmountable.
Medyg
Reached the frame in 2 of 3 qualifying runs on all-weather last year. Gelded and showed a bit on handicap debut when ninth of 13 at Windsor in May but offered little at Doncaster since. Upped to 1m and first-time cheekpieces are applied.
