Timeform View

Denis Hogan has won this handicap a couple of times in recent years and his LIBERATE looks interesting fitted with headgear on the back of a couple of good runs in stronger races at the Curragh. The returning Rhythm King is a very interesting alternative, with Bay of Dreams and Lady Arwen also considered.

Timeform Comments

Blues Emperor (IRE)
Proving more miss than hit this season but is now 19 lb below his last winning mark and has run a couple of good races at Galway in the past.
Dark Summit
Maiden winner over 1m last year in France. Hasn't made much impact in handicaps for present trainer this season but has tumbled in the weights. Cheekpieces back on.
Grey Leader (IRE)
Got back to winning ways at Tipperary in October when trained by Joseph G. Murphy. Little encouragement in 5 outings for current yard this season but now 12 lb below that last successful mark and took a C&D handicap at this meeting in 2024. New headgear tried.
Java Wood (IRE)
Resumed winning ways at Limerick (1m) last month and went close at Gowran 2 days later. Still not got many miles on the clock and one to consider.
San Aer (IRE)
Dual C&D winner on heavy, his latest victory coming back in October 2023. Turned in his best effort of the season after 9 weeks off at Killarney a fortnight ago, putting in some eyecatching late headway. Interesting if building on that.
Showyoutheropes (IRE)
Won at Newmarket last summer for previous trainer. Has made a good start in Ireland and shaped as if better for the run after 4 months off at Tramore 3 weeks ago. Down in trip with headgear back on and could figure.
Bay Of Dreams (IRE)
Two wins in Britain for James Ferguson last year and back in top form for new yard, landing 1m Bellewstown handicap earlier this month, beating Bucaneer's Spirit by 1¾ lengths. Can go well again after 8 lb rise.
Cala Bonita (IRE)
Won 3 times in 2025, including twice in cheekpieces on all-weather. Not so good in 2 runs since an encouraging comeback at Gowran and needs the marked drop in trip to spark her back into action.
Faoladh (IRE)
Scored at Down Royal in May but has quickly gone off the boil, well beaten again at Leopardstown a fortnight ago. Cheekpieces added to tongue strap now.
Finsceal Annie (IRE)
Yet to fire this season but now below her last winning mark (scored twice in a week at Leopardstown last summer). Could bounce back.
Kitty Bear (IRE)
Successful 3 times this year. Tends to race freely (pulled too hard at Dundalk last time) but current mark probably not beyond her.
Lady Arwen
Was on a long losing run but has won 2 of her last 4, coming in for a well-judged ride by this pilot at Ballinrobe last week, beating Elusive Duke by 1¼ lengths. Plenty of good efforts at this track to her name and one to take seriously despite a high draw.
Loingseoir (IRE)
Arrives in good form, making the frame for the third time this season when fourth behind a couple of these at Ballinrobe last week. Gone well here in the past and not dismissed.
Rhythm King (IRE)
Out of sorts as last season ended but 10 lb below his last successful mark and has won both at this track and when fresh. Interesting.
Bucaneer's Spirit (IRE)
Successful on return at Cork (1m) in April and plenty of good efforts since, including when chasing home Bay of Dreams at Bellewstown 2 runs back. Not so good behind Lady Arwen at Ballinrobe last week, though. New headgear goes on.
Liberate
Won at Goodwood in spring 2025 for James Horton. Back in good form in stronger 1m handicaps at the Curragh the last twice and on a tempting mark. Cheekpieces go on and one to consider despite high draw.
Moyassr (IRE)
Good record at Dundalk (2 more wins in January) and struck at Fairyhouse in May. Stretched by 14.4f at Killarney last time (also lost a shoe) and this is more suitable.
Queen Aethelflaed (IRE)
Raced wide with no cover when disappointing at Fairyhouse last time and had previously been in good form, winning at Gowran and shaping well at Leopardstown. Possibilities.
Elusive Duke (IRE)
Leopardstown winner last summer before shaping well in a handicap at this meeting starting out for new yard. Bounced back to his best fitted with cheekpieces when finding just Lady Arwen too good at Ballinrobe last week and in the hunt if he gets a run. RESERVE.
Minaun View
Been in fine form in claimers, making all at Bellewstown and Killarney and finishing second at Ballinrobe last week. Not dismissed back in a handicap. RESERVE.
Ballymagreehan
Opened his account for 2026 in 1m handicap at Gowran in May. Creditable efforts from revised mark since but needs more if he's to score again. RESERVE.
