BETWEENTHESTICKS is taken to land this race for the second year in succession. Great has shaped better than the result on both starts since his Carlisle success last month and is second choice ahead of Spirit of Applause, who has dipped to his lowest mark since scoring at Southwell last September.

Started 2026 with a trio of creditable in-frame efforts and had a possible excuse (ended up away from there the main action unfolded) at York last time. Refitted blinkers replace the cheekpieces he's worn so far this season. Capable off this mark.

Won 4 times on all-weather in second half of 2025. Also started 2026 with some creditable efforts but hasn't shown enough back on turf in recent months to be too positive here.

Back to winning ways at Carlisle (6f, firm) last month and has shaped as if still in form both outings since, including having to wait for a gap at a crucial stage when never-nearer third at Thirsk on Saturday.
Sea Her Excel
Has made all in fast-ground handicaps at Wetherby (5.5f) and Ayr (5f) in recent months, the latter success gained under today's rider Elle-May Croot. Could still be easily handicapped but the outside stall is likely to make it tougher to pull off front-running tactics this afternoon.
Riffa Spirit (IRE)
Won 6f novice at Chelmsford last August for Simon and Ed Crisford. 0-6 in handicaps since but latest sixth of 11 at Chester was respectable. Needs to back that up now.
Bibendum
A dual 5f winner in 2025 who comfortably got off the mark for this season in 3-runner handicap at Leicester (5f) in June. Respectable sixth of 10 at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 16 days ago.
Missmimi
Two course wins (including this trip) in a productive 2025. Off since a lesser run at Newcastle in November. Has had a breathing operation. A watching brief is perhaps the percentage call after 8 months off.

Front-runner whose 3 victories have come over 6f but shapes as if he should prove equally as effective over this trip, including when racing freely and not seeing his race out over 6f at Leicester (good to firm) 14 days ago.
