Timeform View

DOWN AROUND hasn't been long with Gordon Elliott, and he's fancied to capitalise on a handy mark. Dorans Law won this corresponding event in 2024 and is weighted to go close again, while last year's runner-up Ladiam also needs considering.

Timeform Comments

My Trump Card (IRE)
Badly out of sorts for Gordon Elliott last season and ran no sort of race on return/stable debut at Galway.
Killowen House (IRE)
Successful on fifth attempt in points. Seems to be getting the hang of things over hurdles, too, producing his best effort when 5½ lengths fourth of 20 in Galway maiden (22f) 12 days ago. Opening mark demands more again, though he's relatively unexposed over this sort of trip.
Dorans Law (IRE)
Made hard work of things when 11 lengths second of 5 in Wexford chase latest. Reverts to hurdles on same mark as when successful in this race in 2024 (fourth in last year's renewal). Entitled to go well in refitted tongue strap.
Lord Ffrench (IRE)
Sole success came in a weak Sligo maiden this time last year. Creditable efforts both handicap starts following his return, latterly beaten 13 lengths in first-time cheekpieces at Galway (22f). Needs first-time tongue strap/longer trip to bring about improvement.
Strange Currency (IRE)
Standout effort over hurdles came when third in heavy-ground Punchestown maiden in February. Fared no better for switch to fences at Kilbeggan on final start for Gearoid O'Loughlin in late-May. Now tried over further by new yard, but he probably needs to come down the handicap.
Down Around (IRE)
Has fallen a long way in the weights since sole success in 2½m Thurles handicap in November 2024. Probably needed his reappearance at Kilbeggan and looks weighted to resume winning ways on second start for Gordon Elliott.
Run For The Border (IRE)
Relatively lightly-raced 6-y-o. Off the mark in a Limerick maiden (19f, soft) last autumn. Recent run of good form includes a runner-up finish in a course handicap (2¾m), though she has stamina to prove having found less than looked likely at Sligo (21f) 4 days ago (traded 1.31 in-running).
Ladiam (IRE)
Winner off this mark at Sligo last June. Arrives following a season's best third (beaten just over 5½ lengths) at Wexford last time and tends to run well here (runner-up 4 times, including in this race last year).
