Timeform View

HAVANA BLUE is going through a good spell and can build on last week's close second over C&D to snap a losing run. Act of Violence is low-mileage for the Tony Carroll yard and is feared most on the back of his Ripon success, with fellow last-time-out winner Archduke Ferdinand also considered.

Timeform Comments

Havana Blue
Winless since summer of 2024 but arrives in good heart after 3 consecutive runner-up finishes, racing away from the main body of the field and headed only close home when runner-up in 10-runner C&D handicap last week, Can go well again from unchanged mark.
Maelstrom
Progressed to land a hat-trick at Haydock last May and shaped well to finish third in a big-field event at Newbury (6f, heavy) on penultimate outing. Sold cheaply from William Haggas but was involved for a long way prior to tiring at Windsor on return 19 days ago. Can build on that.
Archduke Ferdinand (IRE)
Gained a third course success when making all in a 7-runner handicap at Redcar (6f, good, 11/4) 17 days ago. Up 5 lb but rider is able to claim outside of apprentice-only company this time and he should be competitive.
First Folio
On a losing sequence but he wasn't discredited from a poor draw when tenth of 19 in handicap at York (6f) last month and again ran respectably enough when 5½ lengths fourth of 7 to Archduke Ferdinand in handicap at Redcar (6f, good, 6/1) 17 days ago. Now 13 lb below last winning mark.
Secret Guest
Runner-up at Southwell in January but hasn't threatened since, albeit not being seen to best effect on a couple of occasions. Always on the back foot after an awkward break when tenth of 12 in handicap at Southwell (6f) 19 days ago and others are preferred.
Cayman Tai (IRE)
Doubled his tally at Southwell in May and not disgraced when fifth of 17 at York (5f, good to firm) last month. Ran as well as could've been expected given his track position when seventh of 10 in handicap (6/1) at Brighton (6f, good) 8 days ago but others are more persuasive overall.
Strike
Capitalised on a much-reduced mark when just holding on to end a long losing streak in a 12-runner handicap at Newbury (6f, firm, 4/1) 37 days ago. Largely consistent sort should give another good account with Loughnane replacing 5-lb claimer.
Nevasca Cinza
Placed both starts for Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore in 2025 and similar form for this yard, albeit expensive to follow (failed to land the odds on 2 occasions). Ran up to his best in first-time visor when third of 7 in a 5f Ffos Las maiden last month, though his mark looks a shade stiff.
Act Of Violence
Made his second start for this stable (formerly trained by David Loughnane) a winning one when making most in ready fashion in an 11-runner handicap at Ripon (6f, good, 10/3) 28 days ago. Up 8 lb but yard tend to get the best out of new acquisitions and he's of interest again.
Fancy Dancer
Three-time winner up to 6f for Ollie Sangster last season. Has recaptured a bit of form of late, finishing second in a 5f classified event at Wolverhampton 15 days ago, but she'll need much more to score from out of the weights here with cheekpieces back on.
