Best effort over hurdles came when runner-up in maiden here last summer. Below his fair best both starts on the Flat this season, but the booking of Daniel King offers hope of a better effort on return to hurdling. Place claims.
Penzance
Long way below his useful Flat form when runner-up in 3 maiden hurdles at Stratford/Worcester this summer. Best excused his latest run in first-time cheekpieces (retained) at the Galway Festival. Should at least be competitive on return to maiden company.
Speed For Fun (FR)
Fairly useful Flat winner. Would have made a successful hurdling debut had he cleared the final flight safely at Listowel (2½m) before overdoing things at Cartmel subsequently (17f). This track should suit his free-going nature better and benefits from a first-time hood. Looks the one to beat.
Ballybollen
Sent off favourite but keenness compromised his finishing effort when 7¾ lengths fourth in Ballinrobe bumper on debut. Interesting now sent hurdling by excellent yard (half-brother to fairly useful hurdler).
Cairo King (FR)
Placed in a thin bumper in 2023. Well beaten on hurdling debut the following year. Since left Jamie Snowden and tongue strap fitted on return from 28 months off.
Captain Hanley (IRE)
Fair sort in both codes (0-24). Hit frame for third time in maidens at Kilbeggan latest. Yet to have everything go his way in this sphere, though elusive first win may again evade him here.
Grabat (FR)
Supported at long odds on bumper debut. Fared no better (easy to back) on hurdling debut at Kilbeggan since. Longer-term prospect.
Sankofa (IRE)
Third sole start in points in April. Didn't offer much on Rules debut at Cork and Louiescall looks the stable's leading hope.
Bobby Kirova
Avoided mistakes when running to a similar level as on hurdling debut at Kilbeggan last time, beaten over 12 lengths. Hard to see him finding the required improvement.
Ivatt
Fairly useful middle-distance handicapper on Flat for Charlie Fellowes. Showed promise when beaten 4¼ lengths in handicap at Galway Festival (1½m) on reappearance/stable debut. Likely type now sent hurdling by top yard.
