Timeform View

HAFFNER continued his theme of race-by-race progress when finishing a very good second in Group 2 company at Glorious Goodwood 3 weeks ago and appealing as the type to progress further, Aidan O'Brien's colt makes plenty of appeal. Impressive Galway scorer Trean is another intriguing contender for the Paddy Twomey yard and shouldn't be underestimated, with Confucius and Gentle Hurricane completing the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Alfred Wallace
Very well-related colt who landed a Thirsk novice (7f) in May. Well held in Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot next time but right back on track more recently, proving better than ever under a cool ride when resuming winning ways in Ascot listed race (7f) 4 weeks ago. Can go well again back up in class.
Big Cigar (IRE)
Newcastle novice scorer who benefited no end from the swift return to 6f when making a winning nursery debut here in July. Seemed to find the step up to Group 2 company too much when seventh in the Richmond at Glorious Goodwood since, though, and more needed on first crack at 7f.
Clash Of Hearts (IRE)
Powerfully-built son of Mehmas who made most of good opportunity when off the mark at third attempt in a Pontefract novice (6f) in June. However, unable to continue his steady progress when eighth in a big-field Goodwood nursery 3 weeks ago and he has plenty to find up markedly in grade.
Confucius (IRE)
Decisive winner of a Naas maiden (6f) on second start in May and he progressed further when a good sixth in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. Hasn't scaled same heights in finishing third in pair of Curragh Group contests subsequently but return to forecast easier ground may help here.
Fuel The Jet (IRE)
Space Blues colt who showed definite promise when fifth behind Alfred Wallace on debut at Thirsk (7f) in May and overcame early exuberance when making it second time lucky in a Newbury novice (7f, firm) 33 days ago. Type to progress further but this demands another sizeable step forward.
Gentle Hurricane (IRE)
€105,000 purchase who looked every inch a useful colt in the making when scoring on debut in a 5-runner Salisbury novice (6f) 4 weeks ago, well on top finish. Quickly asked a much sterner question but he looks sure to progress with this longer trip promising to suit.
Haffner (USA)
Justify colt who confirmed debut promise when off the mark in a Newmarket maiden (7f) in July and he took another sizeable step forward when second in Group 2 Vintage stakes at Goodwood (7f) 3 weeks ago. Appeals as the type to improve further and he's a very big player at this level.
Siouxperb
Sioux Nation colt who made a winning start in a Yarmouth (6f) in April. Not ideally placed when down the field in the Coventry at Royal Ascot but quickly back on track when going down fighting in a Newcastle novice (6f) 3 weeks ago. However, expected to come up short back up in class.
Stardom Glory (IRE)
Promising Starspangledbanner colt who finished an excellent second behind a subsequent Group 2 scorer here on second start and he built on that when off the mark in a Chester maiden later in June. Expected to improve further but he'll need to pitched into a Group 3.
Trean (IRE)
Bayside Boy colt who confirmed debut promise at the second attempt when running out a dominant winner of a Galway maiden (7f) 23 days ago, drawing clear entering straight. Interesting his very shrewd Irish yard pitches him into this company now and there's even better to come.
Vega King (IRE)
Lucky Vega colt who proved much sharper with his Ayr debut under his belt when making all in 4-runner Beverley novice (7.3f) 3 weeks ago. Good chance that experience will bring him on further and whilst this is understandably more demanding, excellent stable's runners always command respect.
