AMILOC didn't get the opportunity to show what he could do over 2m in the Goodwood Cup and has to be worth another chance to show he can make a big splash in the staying ranks. Caballo de Mar has a Group 1 penalty but is still feared most ahead of Carmers.

Timeform Comments

Caballo De Mar (IRE)
Ended excellent 2025 season with a win in Group 1 Prix du Cadran (2½m) at Longchamp. Landed another Group 1 back at Longchamp (2m, good to soft) in May and looked set for third until weakening quickly late on in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Given time to get over that. Considered.
Al Nayyir
Evergreen 8-y-o who gained a first win at pattern level in the Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan in February. Good 2¼ lengths second to Rahiebb in Yorkshire Cup here (1¾m, good) in May. Flying too high in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot but should be more competitive here.
Amiloc
Strong 3-y-o campaign, winning Royal Ascot Group 2 before running with credit in defeat in Irish St Leger/Breeders' Cup Turf. His 4¾ lengths sixth to Giavellotto in Hardwicke suggests he retains his ability but didn't get the chance to show what he could at 2m in Goodwood Cup (unseated start).
Carmers (IRE)
Smart colt who won Queen's Vase at 2025 Royal Ascot. Resumed winning ways in workmanlike fashion in 2m Down Royal listed event in May and creditable 12 lengths sixth of 11 to Scandinavia in Gold Cup at Royal Ascot (2½m, good to firm) since. Has a first-time tongue tie added to his usual headgear.
Columbus (GER)
Smart stayer for Christophe Ferland, winning listed race and Group 3 in France in 2024 before placed in a German Group 1 last year. Well beaten in Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot on first Flat run for Willie Mullins but bounced back to make it second time lucky over hurdles at Galway since.
French Master (IRE)
Won 1¾m Copper Horse at 2025 Royal Ascot and went close to a second win at that meeting when worried out of it by Illinois in Queen Alexandra in June. Respectable 16¼ lengths fourth to Scandinavia in Goodwood Cup since but that underlines he needs improvement at this level. Blinkers return.
Illinois (IRE)
Second in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and Goodwood Cup last year. Took advantage of a drop in class when edging out French Master in Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot but well beaten in Curragh and Goodwood Cups since.
Mount Atlas
Smart performer who gained a first pattern success when edging out Tabletalk in Group 3 Silver Cup here (1¾m, good to firm) in July. This consistent sort tackles 2m for the first time now.
Quickthorn
Front-runner who slipped the field when a wide-margin winner of the Goodwood Cup and this race in 2023. Landed another all-the-way success in a small-field conditions race at Salisbury in September 2024 but hasn't been seen since. Can only watch after such a long time off.
