Timeform View

Low mileage 4-y-o CLOTH OF GOLD did about as well as possible under the circumstances in a better race considering a less-than-ideal trip at Southwell on his most recent outing and is taken to capitalise on this marked drop in grade. Mwafaq continues to thrive and seems sure to be on the premises again with this easy 1¼m likely to be within range. Moonrunner has been freshened up after a poor run at Yarmouth and is also interesting, for all that he may be better suited by a more galloping track.

Timeform Comments

Cloth Of Gold (IRE)
Left his York reappearance behind when posting a good second at Newcastle in June, doing well to get amongst those who sat at the head of affairs. Not so good on turf next 2 outings but did well under the circumstances back on all-weather at Southwell latest and this is a marked drop in grade.
Epictetus (IRE)
Snapped a long losing run in 7-runner handicap at Sandown (1¼m, good) 16 days ago, presumably aided by the belated fitting of a first-time tongue strap. Had nothing to spare, though, so a 3 lb higher mark may find him out.
Wanderlust (FR)
Landed the odds on final start for Andre Fabre last autumn. Made solid start for new connections (changed hands for 44,000 gns), hitting the frame all 3 handicap starts over 1¼m. Dipped a bit below those levels upped to 1½m at Thirsk latest and now quickly back down in trip fitted with cheekpieces.
Kokanee (IRE)
Right back to his best with testing conditions proving ideal when winning a 6-runner turf handicap here (1¼m, heavy) in June. Proved appreciably less effective under much less testing conditions at Ayr subsequently and now returns to all-weather.
Pomme Pomme (IRE)
Showed she retains her ability 13 weeks on from a dismal reappearance when fifth of 7 in 1¼m handicap at Windsor in July but seemingly had no excuses when third of 5 at Pontefract on most recent outing.
Moonrunner
Lightly-raced Sixties Icon gelding who showed promise in 2 all-weather outings 4 months apart and progressed again switched to turf when second in Haydock maiden (11.6f) in May. Proved a let-down at Yarmouth 3 weeks on but it probably came too soon and has been freshened up since.
Skibo
From a useful family for connections and he was placed in 2 small-field handicaps at Salisbury last summer. Shaped as if amiss on return at Lingfield in April and has since left Ralph Beckett/had a breathing operation. Hood also back on.
Mwafaq (IRE)
Progressed again when recording win number 5 under this rider at Doncaster (1m) in July. Went very close to completing a second hat-trick when just touched off by an unexposed 3-y-o at Hamilton 3 weeks ago and remains of firm interest given he's likely to stay this easy 1¼m.
Orchard (FR)
Has returned from a year off in good order, unlucky not to finish closer when a length third at Ffos Las (1m) before just failing over the same C&D there next time. Wasn't disgraced tackling 1¼m for the first time at Salisbury but the writing was on the wall for him some way out.
