Timeform View

No shortage of chances but ROMAN DRAGON finds himself back down to his last winning mark having found his stamina stretched tackling 7f on each of his last 2 starts around here and, from a handy draw, he could well be ready to make a bold bid to enhance his already fine record on the Roodee. Easy Wolverhampton scorer American Style, and course specialist Rosenpur head the dangers, whilst a strong pace could bring Cherry Baker into things late in the piece.

Timeform Comments

Roman Dragon
Course specialist (6-time C&D winner) who added to his tally over 5f here in May. Finished well held in the Wokingham at Ascot in June but has seemingly found the return to 7f stretching him on each of his last 2 starts. Fallen back down to last winning mark and interesting back at this trip.
Postmodern (IRE)
Debut 6f Yarmouth winner last May who returned to the form he displayed when placed twice in Meydan when third of 7 in a C&D handicap 4 weeks ago, having gone from the front. Hood worn then is replaced by cheekpieces and draw in 13 makes things tougher this time.
Westport (IRE)
Blue Point gelding who won sprint novices on his first 3 starts. Drawn on wrong part of the track when down the field on handicap debut at Royal Ascot next time but seemingly had no excuses when last of 5 at Sandown since. Eases in grade now.
American Style
Added to good record fresh when a close third at Ripon on reappearance. Below form next 3 starts but back on track on all-weather last month, posting a career best when landing 10-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (6f) 3 weeks ago. Possibilities back on turf from good draw.
Tricky Tel
Bagged handicaps at Hamilton (6f) and here (5f) in early summer. Posted a very good second of 7 in a C&D handicap on his penultimate start and whilst he had excuses at York on Wednesday (always behind from stall 19) he's again been done no favours by the draw here.
Station X
Made the most of a plum draw when adding to his tally over C&D in June and backed that up when finishing good 2 lengths third of 12 at Hamilton (6f) 11 days ago. Rates an each-way player again from same mark.
Cherry Baker
Produced a useful effort when bagging a C&D handicap in May and even better form when edged out late on back here later that month. Drop to 5f didn't seem ideal in class 2 handicap at Ascot a month later and whilst this more suitable, she'll need her share of luck drawn in stall 14.
Reciprocated
Didn't kick on from a highly promising start as a 2-y-o and similar story following a good reappearance third at Pontefract in 2 subsequent starts for Karl Burke. Since switched yards for 58,000 gns in July and it will be interesting what the market makes of him.
Fortification
Made a fine start for new yard, winning 17-runner York handicap (5f) in May and has performed with plenty of credit on 3 of his 4 starts since, latterly when seventh in last week's Great St Wilfrid at Ripon (6f). Likely player from a handy draw in stall 3.
Brighton Boy (IRE)
Three-time winner for Andrew Balding and returned to his best for current yard when scoring at Thirsk in May before a good second over 7f here. Exploits mixed since but excuses on account of where he raced in Great St Wilfrid last week. Not out of things.
Stanley Spencer (IRE)
Multiple all-weather winner who got back on track when finding only one too good in 10-runner handicap at Southwell (6f) in April. Changed hands for 13,000 gns the following month and now has a rare start back on turf.
Coachello (FR)
Last success came on all-weather in December 2024. Below best on 2 of his 3 starts earlier this year but feasible to think his first start for 3 months was needed at Doncaster in May. Absent again since but he's landed the plum draw if ready to roll.
Rosenpur (GER)
Proved at least as good as ever when registering a third course success from the front over C&D in May. Hard to knock his consistency in the main since and he resumed winning ways narrowly at Redcar (5f) 2 weeks ago. Can be competitive again back up at 6f.
Supreme King (IRE)
Ended 2025 with success on all-weather and has kept up the good work into this year, adding a fourth success since January to his tally at Salisbury (6f) 10 days ago. Won going away then and a 4 lb rise ought to see him competitive again for all he's drawn wider than ideal.
