A few in with a squeak but RUSTY HARKNESS made the most of a good opportunity when opening his hurdling account at Kilbeggan last month and as he appeals as the sort who'll come into his own over fences, Henry de Bromhead's 6-y-o gets the vote to follow up. Jeroboam Machin heads up the dangers on his chasing debut (former point winner), with Donnie Devito and Mickie Angel not ruled out, either.

Timeform Comments

Donnie Devito (IRE)
Dual hurdles winner. Not quite so good over fences last season but shaped well after 7 months off when third in maiden at Wexford early last month and best excused his subsequent Galway effort (almost unseated third). Considered back in maiden company.
Fou De Toi (FR)
Borderline fairly useful form sole French start in 2024. Clearly hasn't been the easiest to train since, but he stopped the slide when 9 lengths second in Wexford (2½m) maiden on return. Failed to build on that at Galway earlier in the month and attentions now turned to fences.
Jeroboam Machin (FR)
Looked top prospect when winning 2 bumpers in 2023/24, including a Grade 2. Ran his best race over hurdles fitted with first-time cheekpieces/tongue strap when second of 20 in maiden at Galway (2¾m, good to soft) last month and he's an interesting chasing debutant (former point winner).
Kevin's Pride (IRE)
Impressive bumper winner, though proved frustrating in maiden hurdles prior to getting off the mark at the fifth attempt at Cork in October. Yet to convince as a chaser, beating just one rival home in 2 starts so far and failing to impress with his jumping.
Maverick Mack (IRE)
Came on plenty for his sole outing in bumpers when winning a maiden hurdle at Gowran last November. Failed to complete all 3 handicap starts and his attentions now turn to the larger obstacles.
Mickie Angel (IRE)
Yet to score over fences but arrives in very good nick, finishing with running left when third of 8 in handicap at Kilbeggan (2½m, good) just over a fortnight ago. Every chance back in maiden company.
Rusty Harkness
Still to convince he's an out-and-out stayer but made the most of a good opportunity back over hurdles in 9-runner maiden at Kilbeggan (3m, good) last month. Appeals as the sort who'll come into his own over fences and can build on his chasing debut second back in May. Leading claims.
Slurricane (IRE)
Proving far more miss than hit at present, fourteenth of 20 in handicap at Galway (17f, good to soft) earlier in the month. Upped markedly in trip for this chase debut.
Jolie Jewel (FR)
Winning hurdler who left the impression she should've finished closer from a long way back when third on chase bow at Ballinrobe. Did so when second at Punchestown next time but merely passed beaten rivals late on after a mixed round of jumping at Galway last month. Back up in trip.
