THE MEAN FIDDLER should be getting off the mark at the third attempt. Calef stands out among the rest.

Timeform Comments

Paphos (IRE)
Foaled April 18. €14,000 yearling, €60,000 2-y-o, Kodi Bear colt. Half-brother to 2-y-o 7f winner Bridge Tsuruwakai. Dam, 6.3f winner, half-sister to useful 7f winner Zzodiac out of Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp winner Wizz Kid. Breeze-up purchase from yard more than capable of readying one.
Pivotal Star
Checked out tamely over 6f on debut at Thirsk (50/1). Now tried over the minimum trip, but he probably needs more time.
The Mean Fiddler (IRE)
200,000 gns No Nay Never colt. Wore a tongue strap when narrowly denied on debut at Pontefract (5f). Well backed when ¾-length second to a Karl Burke-trained improver at Ripon (6f) subsequently. Strong claims to make it third time lucky.
By Jove Grace (IRE)
Sales price went the right way, and she showed ability despite being ignored in the betting when second of 4 at Carlisle on debut. Went backwards from that when well held at Ripon subsequently, though.
Calef (IRE)
180,000 gns Blue Point filly. Best effort when showing good speed to finish third at Catterick. Hindered by a very sluggish start at Pontefract last month and was again prominent in betting when unseating leaving the stalls at Chepstow latest. Looks the main danger to The Mean Fiddler.
Classyfied
Ridden with an eye to the future on debut at Beverley (80/1) and is likely a nursery project.
La Flor Granada
Isn't badly bred but shaped with little promise in a 6f Ayr maiden on debut (50/1). Stable jockey rides By Jove Grace.
Sable Noir (IRE)
Showed good early speed amid plenty of greenness when last of 8 on debut at Catterick in late-June. Returns in first-time hood and may still need the experience.
